To Repeat: No GTAIV Split-Screen Multiplayer

We figure you have more than enough Grand Theft Auto IV information by now, but as there are millions interested in the title, more questions continue to arise. The MTV Multiplayer blog has noted that many gamers are asking about split-sceen multiplayer in GTAIV, despite most every source - including us - having said in the past this option isn't available.

But we have to agree with the MTV blog; we keep seeing similar questions, and it's a good idea to clarify this once and for all. If you're planning to sit down with a friend and play some multiplayer GTAIV missions, think again; Rockstar themselves has made this abundantly clear. Look, with a city this size, does it really seem logical to have a single system split Liberty City into two different parts at once? Remember, you can go anywhere at any time in most all multiplayer modes available...imagine trying to implement that in split-screen. Besides, the online multiplayer option is a better choice, anyway, so what are y'all complaining about?

GTAIV is going to offer an incredibly well-rounded online multiplayer experience; to limit it to split-screen would be both silly and even counterproductive.

They could do both...

No, they really couldn't. The technical limitations are far too vast. I doubt you'd be able to have the entire city open to both players at the same time, all the time.

They would have to do the San Andreas split-screen again. It would get just as many complaints about it as I herd of with San Andreas. I rather not have any multiplayer if it had to be split-screen on any GTA. Just think, all of those shadows you see are artificial and it has to be produced on the fly. It only comes up when you are in the area of viewing. The system would have to create two completely different shadow models for two completely different areas. It is possible but very impractical. Most people want to see the whole city in one frame, not two. Plus, it's taking away from classic GTA which everyone would miss due to the fact of less surface texture, more loading screens/freeze frames. I know I don't want to sacrifice game play for game features unless it gives me the option of customization...
