PlayStation 3 Price Hike in Hong Kong, Singapore

  While we doubt this bit of news will affect many of you, it's still worth noting. Gamers who purchased a PlayStation 3 in Hong Kong and Singapore anytime before today should consider themselves lucky. As of now, the PlayStation 3 has increased in price by 200HKD, which is just about $25 American dollars. The original price for a 40GB PlayStation 3 was 2680HKD (~$348), and you get a free game - it is now 2880HKD (~$373) and you get nada.

   For citizens of Singapore, your PlayStation 3's once cost 559SGD, and today they retail for 599SGD - a hike of 40SGD, or about $30USD. No word on why the consoles have increased prices, but it could be purely because of economic reasons; Singapore is experiencing a 25 year record high inflation rate. As for Hong Kong, we're not entirely sure what the reason could be. So if you've got an idea, leave a message in the comment box below.

   Either way, price increases aren't fun. With the story about GTAIV missing a feature, Metal Gear Online Beta being delayed, and this, today's Monday seems rather uneventful. Maybe Garfield was onto something, after all. No word on whether or not this price hike includes other Asian countries, so feel free to tip us off if you see anything.

Plus Metal Gear Monday is sure taking a long time to get posted. The only reason I care is because I would really like some info on the Gun Metal PS3. I really doubt they will release anything until about a month before MGS4 gets released though. Sucks.

I personally think that after the 20 year cold war between singapore and china, the secret order of the dragon is finally trying to undermine the the economics of the surronding nations. I believe that this hidden chinese goverment agency is planning to join forces in secret with america to take control of the Eurasia. Once the economics of america and China have balanced out after america's election this year...and obama who is the leader of the US order of the dragon begins cutting relations with singapore to make their economy violently unstable...the Indian ocean intiative will begin. This operation will prevent any trafficing between the asian countries and america...thus destroying microsoft change from taking over the small islands of indonesia and creating a large sentient robotic fleet.

erm for the record 'record high inflation rate' doesnt give Singapore much credit for its constant efforts and successful, i might add, to curb inflation through the years.

it really isnt that high really, as to wat 'record high' might suggest.

and to coolistic: i'm glad i live in Singapore.

499 USD = 673 SGD (at 1.35 rate)

probably due to USD vs SGD gap that has been slowly closing caused them to reconsider pricing.
