Ninja Theory Going Multiplatform, Heavenly Sword Sequel by Sony?
In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Heavenly Sword developer Ninja Theory revealed that they have an all new title currently in development right now. GI.Biz asked Ninja Theory if they're working on a Heavenly Sword sequel, to which Nina Kristensen, the Co-founder, replied with "No we're not, we're working on a new IP."  As it turns out, this new IP isn't a PlayStation 3 exclusive, either. Kristensen openly stated that the game is being developed for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Ninja Theory has signed with a publisher to distribute the game, but they won't be revealing who that publisher is just yet. This bit of news shouldn't surprise anyone, really, as Ninja Theory's first game was originally a Microsoft published Xbox game: Kung-Fu Chaos.
Back in 2003, Ninja Theory was known as Just Add Monsters, until changing their name to what it is today. On the topic of Heavenly Sword, Ninja Theory has publicly stated that a story for the sequel has already been written, and that it actually spans a trilogy's worth of games. It was last year when co-founder Tameem Antoniades stated: We've had the story for the sequel for a while now. Hopefully, if this game is successful, then there's no reason why there shouldn't be a sequel and we'd very much like to go into that."
Heavenly Sword didn't perform poorly in sales, so if a sequel is underway, it could be that Ninja Theory has been dropped as the developer of the game, and perhaps Sony is developing it in-house, maybe in Santa Monica (the home of God of War)? After all, Heavenly Sword is a trademark of Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe, and not Ninja Theory.
