Activision Source: Third-Person Call of Duty Canned
The source claims that, yes, they were working on a third-person COD game, and that it would play more like a Tom Clancy game, as opposed to a Call of Duty game. Kotaku's source states the game would've boasted "very different kinds of gameplay", and that it would deal with special ops fighters. But the game's been canned, and with good reason.
Allegedly, the game was a "mess" with a "terrible" story that "...took every cliche you hated from every other squad-based military shooter and stuffed it into COD." Both Activision and Infinity Ward "had a fit" after witnessing how amateurish the entire effort was. And amateurish seems to be the right word to describe the game, as the game's creative director "hired a team of utter beginners and tossed the project to them without any metrics or direction". Wow.
So now the new belief, and it makes sense too, is that the studio was canned because of its poor showing of the third-person COD game. We're going to say that the studio's ending was a combination of both reports: not being able to execute a task properly, and not having a new title lined up for development.
