Grand Theft Auto IV To Sell 1M More PlayStation 3s Over X360

  Michael Pachter is the one person's job I wish I had. Another trivial prediction has come from the Wedbush Morgan analyst, as he believes that Grand Theft Auto IV will help sales of the PlayStation 3 considerably more than sales of the Xbox 360.

   "I think PS3 'wins' this battle," Pachter told Reuters. He said that if sales of Take-Two's GTA IV come in at the high end of the 9-12.5 million unit estimates during 2008, the game will directly drive sales of two million additional PS3s this year, compared to one million Xbox 360s.

   BMO Capital Markets analyst, Edward Williams, believe that this notion only makes sense, because for long now the GTA franchise has been synonymous with the PlayStation name. And so a lot of gamers waited for GTAIV before purchasing a PlayStation 3.

   "So many people who owned the PS2 went into PlayStation family because of GTA. The release of GTA IV could expedite their decision to upgrade," he noted.

   But it should be noted that the analysts are not stating that the PS3 version will outsell the Xbox 360 version, though. Additionally, Sony also pointed out that the PlayStation 3's line-up of Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, and Resistance 2 would gives gamers more AAA games to play after they're done with GTAIV. And that's certainly better than GTAIV downloadable content, which, some critics are worried, is the best Microsoft has to offer for 2008.

The problem with the DL content for GTA4 is that it's not coming out anytime soon. Although I'm sure there are gonna be a lot of people who will buy the content when it's released - a lot of people are not gonna put the DL content in front of playing Ninja Gaiden 2, GeoW2 or Too Human.

Like someone said before with Home, "I better see the face of God" in the DL content for it to be worth 50 million.

I think maybe M$ didn't think they would sell more systems because of GTA4. They just didn't wanna get blown out of the water and let the PS3 catch up even quicker.

Theres more than one problem. 1) It's not coming out early as people see it would. 2) Dude, Its GTA... Like theres not enough in that game too keep you hooked... And 3) They are only added missions. Rockstar did say they COULD add city-sized downloads BUT, there is a catch to that... 1) Rockstar already disapproved the decision made by Microsoft to not add HDD to all their systems and 2) When Rockstar did state this "city-sized" downloads... They never specified for what system, and they never said it was the "Exclusive Content for the X360"... Think about this guys. Ps3 is a winner once agian.


P.S. Pachter is a smart guy, Ive followed a lot of his predictions and well... they came if not right, then really damn close.

I realize u guys are all upset with patcers decisions in the past but you have to look at the big picture. if patcher is right thats a good thing for sony fans. if you guys are true sony fans yall wouldnt be complaing about his prediction, as for as pacters predction im with him why cause im a DIE HARD SONY FAN since PS1. ok so im sorry but if ps3 outsells the xbox thats my day being made right there. who knows the moron might be wrong, but im praying hes right.

Its all based on evaluation and what system is strong in what region, what system is growing stronger etc... The only way you would understand where they actually get their answers from is if you personally meet with one of them and stayed side-by-side with them for a week, maybe 2 weeks. Theyre answers don't come crawling out their asses, although it seems like it :P

Anyone who thinks that Sony won't have DLC is fooling themselves. There will be DLC for GTAIV on PS3 because there is too much money to be made when you have that kind of user installed base.

Thats a very false comment. Although it may seem all of Pachter's predictions are wrong, he followes his predictions based on economics, unit amount within households and etc... things like that. He is, afterall, an expert at this. He does also get very close to correct with his predictions.

Well I'm sure he follows economics and whatever else is needed to find these predictions. But didn't he just get famous for predicting something big last year?

The criticism I've read about him is that he gives extremly broad predictions that almost anyone with gaming knowledge and history could predict.

Hopefully he's right this time.

I don't like him though, he looks crazy shady in that picture.

I heard he's that blurry in person.

Well your feelings are yours, but once agian... If Pachter actaully started to predict on his own, without following "procedures" so to say, he would be right about 90% of the time, but he would also lose his job. His job isn't of what we think of it as,it's also not him taking guesses, these answers go through a lot of though, although they may not be right or may not even look like they need experts... it is his job, its all based on diffrent aspects of the gaming business. In short-His answers arn't his answers... theyre the "experts" answers, and I don't think he should be held accountable for doing his job.

If patcher was a betting man he would lose alot of money on his own predictions. He was well off with last months sales figures predicting the wrong winner (not including Wii)for march. I think most of us can guess based of nothing and get similar predictions as patcher.
Making games sales predictions is like trying to work out how well a movie will do at the box office, no one knows if the movie will flop and no one goes to see it.

Not true :) We never seen him go about his own predictions, stop talking about things that never have been proven or even happend....yet :P

P.S. Games and Movie productions are 2 very diffrent things, in terms of predictions. When a movie comes out, you don't usually say, "Oh im gonna enjoy this time over time" it's more like "Oh, looks good, I think ill see it" But when a game is on the shelf or being previewd whatever the case might be, its "Hmm, Am I gonna play this game for long? Do I like games liek this? Is this game worth my money? Do my friends like it?" You know, questioning yourself about things opens up a whole new window of life :)
