GTAIV: Costliest Game To Make In History
As you all know, Grand Theft Auto IV comes out this week. If for some bizarre reason you didn't know, you're simply lost...this is a gaming website, chief. Everybody in the game world knows GTAIV drops on the 29th.
Anyway, the game will certainly be the biggest release of 2008, and according to a recent article at the UK's TimesOnline, it may also be the most expensive game to make in the industry's history. Leslie Benzies, one of the leading producers for GTAIV, estimates that the total cost to create GTAIV sits at the astounding $100 million mark. Yep, that's right- "It's like making a theatre production, a few movies and an album all to fit into one package," he said. While he can't put an exact price tag on the production, he believes that $100m mark isn't far off; over 1,000 people had a part in developing the blockbuster, after all. But even if it is accurate, don't worry about Rockstar. Analysts expect the game to rake in over $400 million in the first week of sales alone.
Grand Theft Auto IV is bound to be a phenomenon, and it probably comes as no surprise that it costs a mountain of cash to develop and produce. But $100 million? That's just insane. Let's hope it's all worth it in the end!

I hope GTAIV make enoug money so that Take Two dont have to sell there company to EA. Besides we all know there is a high percentage chance that gta might just make 800 or maybe a Bill in the first week....lets hope

"the game will certainly be the biggest release of 2008"
Does anyone else thing this is a bit premature to be calling this game the biggest release of all of 2008?
i don't know about you but Starcraft 2 has millions of followers more than GTA:IV
Blizzard Is doing a launch of it Simultaneously around the world much like GTA:IV. i believe if i am not mistaken but is anyone out there thinking that something like Starcraft 2 might surpass GTA:IV in sales the first day or week?
Just my 2 Cents

I wouldn't say it unless it's basically a foregone conclusion. I don't believe in exaggeration. But GTAIV is and will be the biggest release of this year, as most industry journalists will also say.

Secolliyn, I can guarentee you.. that GTA4 will in fact be the biggest release this year. And it's all about one thing.. Mass appeal. Sure other games like FFXIII, Haze and others will have great numbers and will have awesome launches.. But, GTA4 is one of those games that EVERYONE wants to play. Although im in that group of people that hold up RPG's above all other games.. RPG's are an aquired taste and not exactly made for the masses. Same for FPS's and strategy games. But the GTA series has always had that "something for everybody" thing going. Driving, shooting, collecting stuff, stealing cars, mini-games, and much, much more. Everybody seems to love a "dark-hero" type.
Raz is right.. costliest is not a word.
And finally.. Welcome back Ben.. its good to see ya back. I always enjoy reading your stuff. And the new look is much more easy on the eyes.
