PS3 News: GTAIV Freezes After First Cut-Scene?

GTAIV Freezes After First Cut-Scene?

Update: Rockstar has been quick to respond to this, and it seems the problem is more prevalent on the 60GB PS3 model. They say if the error described below happens to you, the best thing to do is delete the game data and re-install.

Original Story:

Today is a big day, and we all know why. Everywhere you look, you see pages and pages of news revolving around Take-Two and Rockstar's massive blockbuster, Grand Theft Auto IV, which hit store shelves around the world only a few hours ago. However, while most stories are either positive or anticipatory, there's one that's starting to worry a few potential GTAIV owners...

As Kotaku pointed out, if you peruse the Internet for early feedback on the game, you're going to find two things: 1. everyone loves it, and 2. it seems the game is capable of locking up on the player after the first cut-scene. Evidently, this error is severe enough to cause the entire system to crash, forcing the player to unplug the console from the electrical socket. A similar failure plagued the Xbox 360 version of Rockstar's Bully, but this one seems to be affecting both the PS3 and 360 versions of GTAIV. Now, we're hoping this is one of those errors that, once you get past it, it'll never be a problem again. On the other hand, if it's just a constant lock-up and you can't play the game, all you new GTAIV owners may want to save that receipt.

Early feedback in terms of gameplay has been amazing - perfect 10s are popping up left and right - so this is the first really negative aspect we've found. Let's just hope it's not too widespread.

I'm guessing Metal Gear Solid 4 wont receive game of the year, multi-platform games have a way better chance of getting it.

Sucks, I wanted the PS3 to have game of the year exclusivity this year.

I think MGS4 will have best PS3 game or something to that extent. Even a better story than GTA...hopefully lol.

Anyway, I'm thankful that my PS3 didn't freeze up during that first cutscene...is that cutscene the one that has the credits tied in?

My GTA keeps crashing when i play it. Although when i first played it for a solid 6 hours nothing went wrong. I took a break for a couple hours, come back, and now it's crashing. What the hell is that about..
