Online Play For God Of War III?
There are several sources that typically provide new information in the games industry: one of them is retailers and the other is the job listings for the publishers and developers. Recently, a Kotaku reader spotted a job listing at SCEA's official website that may hint at online gameplay for God of War III.
The ad is for an "Online Gameplay Programmer" who will work with the "team behind the critically acclaimed AAA titles 'God of War' and 'God of War II'." In this new generation, online multiplayer gameplay is bigger than ever, and will only continue to grow in popularity, which makes this seem all the more plausible. Of course, GoW has always been a one-player experience, so it'd be interesting to see how SCEA implements an online gameplay mechanic. Could we be seeing a fighting game style? Kratos vs. some of the game's biggest bosses in a variety of arenas? Or how about online co-op, where two Kratos' can charge through the single-player campaign together? There are any number of possibilities, but we'll have to wait for some form of official confirmation before we can speculate legitimately.
There's no doubt in our minds that God of War III is going to kick all kinds of ass when it arrives, but online play would be a definite bonus. Stay tuned for more GoWIII details as they arrive.

I guess they do that because games are so expensive now, and most people just don't have the cash to spend $60 on a 6-8 hour game.

Even if a game is 6-8 hours long, at $10/hour, it's no more expensive than movies. In fact, because most games are much longer than 6-8 hours, games are MUCH cheaper than movies, CDs, and even books. In all reality, gaming is one of the CHEAPEST hobbies on earth; you get the most bang for your buck.

You don't have to play online.
Also, I guarantee you that it won't hurt the games quality. Sony Santa Monica is too good for that.
