Online Play For God Of War III?

There are several sources that typically provide new information in the games industry: one of them is retailers and the other is the job listings for the publishers and developers. Recently, a Kotaku reader spotted a job listing at SCEA's official website that may hint at online gameplay for God of War III.

The ad is for an "Online Gameplay Programmer" who will work with the "team behind the critically acclaimed AAA titles 'God of War' and 'God of War II'." In this new generation, online multiplayer gameplay is bigger than ever, and will only continue to grow in popularity, which makes this seem all the more plausible. Of course, GoW has always been a one-player experience, so it'd be interesting to see how SCEA implements an online gameplay mechanic. Could we be seeing a fighting game style? Kratos vs. some of the game's biggest bosses in a variety of arenas? Or how about online co-op, where two Kratos' can charge through the single-player campaign together? There are any number of possibilities, but we'll have to wait for some form of official confirmation before we can speculate legitimately.

There's no doubt in our minds that God of War III is going to kick all kinds of ass when it arrives, but online play would be a definite bonus. Stay tuned for more GoWIII details as they arrive.

or they might do it good and make the game super great, this might open the francise to more people and they are a great team of developers so they will do just fine.

I agree with Dark5tatic, games like Uncharted and Heavenly Sword aren't getting enough recognition nowadays, due to the lack of online - like if they needed it. Instead of online, developers should add multiple endings, different dialogue depending on choices, alternate costumes, GOOD DLC, good mix of difficulty leves etc..

I guess they do that because games are so expensive now, and most people just don't have the cash to spend $60 on a 6-8 hour game.

Fabi: By that line of cost reasoning, DVDs and Blu-Ray movies are just as, if not more, expensive. A 2-hour DVD typically costs $20, and a Blu-Ray disc costs even more. That's at least $10/hour.

Even if a game is 6-8 hours long, at $10/hour, it's no more expensive than movies. In fact, because most games are much longer than 6-8 hours, games are MUCH cheaper than movies, CDs, and even books. In all reality, gaming is one of the CHEAPEST hobbies on earth; you get the most bang for your buck.

I agree that certain games DO NOT need a online feature. I seriously doubt the reason why so many people buy GoW will be cuz of the multiplayer, it'll be cuz they enjoyed 1,2,and CoO and want to finish the rest of the story. Games like Shadow of the Collossus, Heavenly Sword, Metal Gear, etc. did pretty well and they were all single player. Now I also agree that without multiplayer a bunch of games could've done worst...CoD4, the Halos, GoW. So yeah I wouldn't say online is necessary for GoW but it could help or not help the game. I say leave it alone

There is no need to get mad at say "DON"T INCLUDE IT, NOOOO!" Obviously, they are hiring so it will either be God of War 3 or a new IP(doubtful). There is no stopping it.

You don't have to play online.

Also, I guarantee you that it won't hurt the games quality. Sony Santa Monica is too good for that.

I understand where everyone is coming from, but i just don't see how u can fit multiplayer modes in everything, i think they should focus on the game itself and continue the great franchise, I pretty much doubt that david jaffe would approve of that idea, some games just don't need an multiplayer, ie darksector, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. i think that people are just trying to hop on the multiplayer bandwagon thats all. certain games should stick with multiplayer modes and certain games just need to be action based or whatever there particular genre is. And you can be surprise how a stupid decision can ruin a game.

God of War III is definitely going to be one of the big titles for the PS3 and kind of screw the 360 in the process. These games are also going to own Final Fantasy XIII, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Resident Evil 4 (yes it's not an excluive but you all saw how the GTA sells turned out: PS3 55%, 360 45%)...
