Rockstar "Feels Terrible" About GTAIV Lock-Up Issue

At first, it was believed that the freezing issues of Grand Theft Auto IV were only affecting the PS3, but reports now say that both the 360 and PS3 versions may have lock-up issues.

It's difficult to pin down, but it seems that the majority of these problems tend to crop up during the opening cut-scene of the game or when trying to enter and exit the multiplayer mode. Some users have reported catastrophic failures, in that the game actually ruined their console entirely. Rockstar quickly acknowledged the issue and suggested that PS3 users uninstall the game data and reinstall, but that - and no other user fix - seems to work. A Rockstar rep has made a very candid response to this situation (source- Kotaku): "I feel terrible about this," and said the company is attempting to come up with a solid fix. He doesn't know when this will happen, though, so here's hoping the freezing issue isn't too widespread. It'd be a crime if not enough people got to experience this one.

So if you do have a GTAIV lock-up issue, just try to be patient. If you can, return it for another copy and try that. We'll keep you updated.

I mean, my GTA IV freezed like 2wice or 3 tiems, but thats it... Is that the issue everones talking about? Rockstar did a nice job on the game, so im not gonna sit here "Fuck you rockstar, your online is shit and the game freezes" lol, im fine with it... Takes like 20 secs to turn off PS3 and turn on. :)

We don't know the full extent of how these issues are affecting users yet. When the euphoric over reaction has subsided we will get the true picture. A game can never be perfect. I also believe other issues will crop up as players play through the game. It is inevitable patches are on the way... and as expected records are being broken. I won't purchase the game now... I may never purchase it, however, if tempted I will wait for these issues to be resolved first with patches etc. I am in no rush... with Haze and GRID coming out soon, there is enough fun around. CODIV continues to eat up the majority of my online gaming anyways.

Nope, only attempting to keep some balance if one can. I for one have over reacted in the past, not waited long enough for the dust to settle before making a decision. Usually decisions require one to spend money, therefore, if I am going to spend my hard earned money, I will make very sure I do not get overly influenced by media hype of any sort. I am new to the GTA franchise anyway, so my observations are (for this particular game) to go easy, to go slow, let the dust settle and then make a purchasing decision.
In the past I have been burned by purchases I made due to marketing hype and not taking the time to research enough by reading industry reaction to a title, player reviews and the like. In the last 10 years, and particularly in the last 5 years, the internet has leveled the playing field, supplying me with information I need to make the most informed purchasing decision I can. With GTA, as with other titles past and future, marketing hype is one thing, reality is another. This does not mean at all that these games are 'bad', I am merely pointing out that it may be worth sitting back and watching for a while before rushing into anything, and that goes for most things in life.

Thus far I've not experienced any of the problems anyone's reported here. I have a 40GB PS3 and the game took less then 5 minutes to install to the HDD (i saw comments and reviews it was up to 15minutes for some people) and I played through the opening and the first three or four missions with nary a stutter, skip, speech offsync, nothing. Admittedly I did not try online multiplayer yet but I was connected and logged on the PSN whilst I was playing. Alot more controls to this one then previous GTA's though and the civilian AI is alot better.

OK, so I go to this sight all the time and have never posted, but I think this would be the time. I threw my GTA in my 40g on Tues and made it through the initial installation and about 3 minutes of the opening cutscene. All the sudden the audio stopped but the video kept going. I pressed X to skip and it went to the loading screen, and the drive sounded pretty iffy (loud clicking). It proceeded to load for over 15 minutes, so I had no choice but to reset. When I turned it back on, it no longer would read any disc. Dvds, blue-rays, nothing. Called SONY and they are sending me a box to send it to them. So, that's how GTA killed my PS3. Guess I'm just unlucky, but it looks like there are some others experiencing this as well.

Ahaaha, man I feel bad for you... Your never suppose to turn off a system while its loading/saving. But chances are, they are going to format your entire harddrive... You shoulda done it yourself :P, Im feeling for you though, I accidently turned off my Ps3 when I was saving Heavenly Sword, lost everthing :(, Just format it, everything should go back to normal.

I'm not been funny but surely rockstar tested the game running on these 2 platforms and if these issues or some issues are happening at the opening cut-scene then why did not rockstar come accross this? Or did rockstar have this game finished and when it came to testing they came across this issue a little too late so they thought they'll release the game on scheduel anyway and fix it with a patch?
