Obama Talks GTAIV...Intelligently
Everyone wants a piece of Grand Theft Auto IV these days. And while we normally don't talk politics on this site - it's just so freakin' boring - this is something that's worth mentioning.
Leading Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama talked about GTAIV in a speech yesterday, and for once, it wasn't a Thompson-esque rant about how video games are killing our children. It was was a calm, steady, relatively informed set of statements that actually surprised us. For the first time, we saw a politician admit a game was designed specifically for adults - which GTAIV is, of course - and didn't immediately assume that games in general were evil. However, Obama did say he believed that kids would still get their hands on Rockstar's blockbuster (and he's right), and that games and entertainment are "raising our kids." (source, MCVUK, GamePolitics)
"I was just catching the news this morning about Grand Theft Auto, this video game, which is gonna break all records and make goo-gobs of money for whoever designed it. Now, this isn't intended for kids, although I promise you there are kids who are playing it, but these video games are raising our kids... Across the board, middle-class, upper-class, working-class kids, they're spending a huge amount of their time not on their studies, but on entertainment."
And so part of our job is going to have to be to inspire the entire country to say, 'How are we giving our kids a thirst for knowledge?' And turning off the TV set, and getting them to be engaged and interested, like their future really does matter on how well they do in school."
We're not promoting Obama and we're not saying everything he says is 100% accurate (far from it), but we have to agree completely with everything in those quotes. ...since when do gamers agree with politicians? What's the world coming to?

It all depends on the beings chemistry, and what they like/dislike, rather have/not have and things of that nature. Therefor, saying that games can addict anyone at any age with any personality is a complete lie. I play video games 24/7, I still manage to carry a very healthy social life, I still manage to go to work on time, anytime at any day, and I still manage to pass my classes (Although I really do hate school, but society forces a lot of things on us =/)
So, video games to me are a big part of my life, but do they affect me completely? Absalutly not. I don't ever recall thinking to myself "My god, Niko looks so cool, I want to go out and run people over like he does"
It's all a matter of chemistry within a being.
What you wrote about is just flat-out bullshit that makes somewhat no sense as far as I am concerend.
Thanks for wasting my 5 minutes of peace with your "garbage" cented post.
P.S., Your the one thats making it more complicated than it has to be. Stop it will you! :P

1) Rockstar isn't your god damn childs parent. You are, and if you don't like it, don't have kids. It is not Rockstars responsiblity to teach your child how to shit, and whats right from wrong, it is your responsiblity (Parent)
2) There is no such excuse as "Parents are too busy these days." Because if your telling me that your way too busy to watch what your child is playing, or look on the back of the mother fucking video game case for the ESRB rating, then you have some seriouse problems, see a god damn physiatrist.
3) If you think all video games are violent and teach your kids wrong instead of right, just jump off a cliff right now before I throw you off, Video games increase the human thought process by X amount of % (Depending on how much they play) through-out the human average life-spam.
How you may ask? Look at World of Warcraft for example. The quests that you take require thought, and the more the brain thinks for some period of time the more it developes on problem/real life statistics and solving.
Those are a few reasons that if your a parent and go around telling people how bad video games are and how bad they are to your kids, then your just, flat-out, plain and simple, no excuses whatsoever... Retarded and full of shit. Sorry for the long write, It's GTA IV time now.
