Poll: 37% Of GTAIV Users Report Freezing Problems

The freezing issues that seem to plague so many copies of Grand Theft Auto IV continue to run rampant, despite the big list of tips and suggestions provided by Take-Two's support staff a few days ago. Both Sony and Rockstar say they're currently working on a fix, but we're still not sure how long that will take.

Well, they better get movin'. According to a recent poll over at Loot Ninja, only 63% of users have said they haven't had any problems with the game, which means that 37% of users (more than 1/3, math geniuses) have indeed experienced freezing or lock-up issues. Now, the sample is only based on 2,420 votes, which is tiny in comparison to the actual number of GTAIV players out there right now, but the results remain somewhat telling. At PSXE, I personally haven't had any problems yet, but Arnold has found some serious freezing issues when trying to load the start of the game, and when trying to load an individual mission. So to some extent, we certainly feel the pain of those who'd love to play GTAIV, but just can't.

Perhaps this will cause Rockstar and Sony to work even faster, but we get the feeling that they're working as fast as humanly possible already. With a game that's this successful, with so many potentially defective copies out there, they're probably scrambling like mad to come up with a fix. If and when they do, we'll be sure to tell you about it.

this may help: the first time i installed it, it completed, but sat at the 'Starting New Game' icon in the lower right corner, without starting the game. nervous that this was the gateway to a freeze, i deleted the game, signed out of PSN, and reinstalled. The game installed perfectly and i was on my way to liberty city. i think the key is signing out of PSN durning the install.

hey they didn't ask me! I woulda made it 38%...mine freezes in about 7 minutes.
P.S. It is not an overheating issue. I have put my PS3 in front of a 9,000BTU Portable Air Conditioner, yet it lasted only ten minutes. And no I'm not joking. It was blowing 50F degrees right in the ventilation slots. I am so sad :(

Yeah, it's def an internet/online issue, which does suck, but that's different then an actual hardware prob with the ps3 or the disc manufacturing. I had responded earlier after first playing the game that I had no probs with lockups or anything but then the second time I went to play it hung while loading my saved data then again when I started a new mission (once the gameplay started). Once I disabled my Internet connection I had no probs but it does kind of suck since there was so much hype about how great the multiplayer is. Right now it's pretty much a standalone game...

I had the lock up issue a few times (one right after the next, restarting though) and I copied all of my saves to a flash drive and deleted the one giving me problems, now it works. I just played off the auto save file and it all worked. Not others problems though. May help some...
