Prototype Needs More Time To Become A Reality

We assume many of you out there are currently enjoying Grand Theft Auto IV, which makes perfect sense. That masterpiece deserves to be played by a lot of people. However, we must always look to the future, and there's another free-roaming sandbox type game out there; one with a fantasy twist to make things really interesting.

However, Sierra and developer Radical have confirmed today to IGN that Prototype has been delayed until 2009. Initially, it was expected to arrive some time later this year, but now lists an April 1, 2009 release date. IGN confirmed with Sierra that the company "simply needs more time to deliver the game the team initially set out to create." While we're never a fan of delays, we are a fan of developers taking as much time as they need to produce the best game they can make. Seriously, effort and discipline is required when it comes to creating a game, and if they're not happy with what they've got, we probably wouldn't be happy with it, either. We say, they're thinking of the gamers.

And besides, the game actually takes place in Liberty City, New York, so perhaps it's no great tragedy that we won't see Prototype until next year. Of course, it's still a very different game, but how much time can we really spend in Liberty City? Honestly? Okay, a lot.

Just wondering Ben, it Rockstar isn't behind this one than why would it be set in Liberty City. I mean, you would think that Rockstar owns the right to a fictional city that they created.

Takes place in Liberty City? Is there an actual place called that in NY? Or are you talking about the same Liberty City were all causing havoc at?

The trailer for Prototype looked very promising, but the city needed lots of work. It looked bad compared to GTA4.

@Marvel and Fabi: I think he ben decided we were smart enough to figure out it takes place in NYC.

I was hoping but never truly believed this game was ready for this year. This gives the developers more time to: 1. perfect some expirimental gameplay mechanics; 2. get out of GTA's shadow; 3. build some hype for a wildly unknown game; and 4. add the extra polish this game needs to stand out. I have high hopes for prototype. I hope they use this time wisely and can live up to my unfairly high expectations.

im afraid i'll have to disagree with all of you here. prototype should have never been mentioned coz this is the Home saga all over again.Sierra (and Sony) should learn from square n especially quantic dream; dont advertise something you dont have, regardless of the hype.

The difference between Home and Prototype is that Home created istant hype and Prototype is still largely unknown. So this is far off from the Home saga (which has been an embarassment.)

Prototype looks like a really good game but I've played a lot of the Hulk games and I've never really gotten that intrested in those types of games...maybe if they added like some type of RPG element then maybe it would really explode as a title but who knows...
