Prototype Needs More Time To Become A Reality

We assume many of you out there are currently enjoying Grand Theft Auto IV, which makes perfect sense. That masterpiece deserves to be played by a lot of people. However, we must always look to the future, and there's another free-roaming sandbox type game out there; one with a fantasy twist to make things really interesting.

However, Sierra and developer Radical have confirmed today to IGN that Prototype has been delayed until 2009. Initially, it was expected to arrive some time later this year, but GameStop.com now lists an April 1, 2009 release date. IGN confirmed with Sierra that the company "simply needs more time to deliver the game the team initially set out to create." While we're never a fan of delays, we are a fan of developers taking as much time as they need to produce the best game they can make. Seriously, effort and discipline is required when it comes to creating a game, and if they're not happy with what they've got, we probably wouldn't be happy with it, either. We say, they're thinking of the gamers.

And besides, the game actually takes place in Liberty City, New York, so perhaps it's no great tragedy that we won't see Prototype until next year. Of course, it's still a very different game, but how much time can we really spend in Liberty City? Honestly? Okay, a lot.
