Naughty Dog Expects Uncharted Sequel, New Jak Entry

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

It was one of 2007's finest creations, and worthy of a tie with God of War II for our Game of the Year award. Yes, we're huge fans of Naughty Dog's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, which is why we're awfully happy to hear that the developer should be planning a sequel.

They didn't exactly confirm it, but here's the quote in question from Next-Gen.biz:

"We developed Uncharted as a franchise. The pulp action/adventure genre lends itself perfectly to serialization and continued episodes which is one of the reasons we were attracted to it," Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells told the semi-official Sony blog Three Speech. "Right now we are brainstorming on what Naughty Dog’s next project will be, but even if we don’t do an Uncharted sequel right away, you can pretty much count on us doing one in the near future."

Naughty Dog is also responsible for the critically acclaimed Jak and Daxter series, even though the two heroes have split up in the past (Jak II and Jak III for the PS2 and Daxter for the PSP). The excellent platformers often competed against Insomniac's Ratchet and Clank series, and we already have a next-gen R&C. Tools of Destruction was excellent, but what about another Jak and Daxter?

"Jak and Daxter is a definite possibility some time in the future," said Wells. "There is a lot of interest around the office in going back to that franchise and seeing what we could do with it using the Uncharted engine."

All good news. But we really just want more info on that Uncharted sequel, and that's something we may be seeing from Naughty Dog some time later this year...
