Activision Top Publisher In US

Electronic Arts may be huge, but according to the latest financial numbers, Activision holds the #1 publishing slot in North America.

Activision has published their results for the 2008 financial year, and the company raked in $2.9 billion in overall net revenue. That impressive number is up 92% over the previous year's haul, which is mostly thanks to several big-selling software titles like the massive Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Net revenue is up by even more; it rose from $85.8 million to $344.9 million this year; both CoD4 and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock topped the billion-dollar mark in sales, and to have that happen in the same year is tremendous.

"During the fiscal year, we were the number one US console and handheld publisher in dollars for the first time ever, according to The NPD Group, and we grew our worldwide share of the console, handheld and PC markets year over year," said head man Robert Kotick.

Furthermore, according to Eurogamer, Activision confirmed a new set of games during a conference call after the results: there will be a fifth Call of Duty (duh), the Tony Hawk series is coming back (double duh), a new Marvel: Ultimate Alliance game is on the way, and Guitar Hero IV now has an estimated "holiday" release date. Yep, Activision is definitely rolling right along.
