Sony: Open Home Beta In November For Europe
It was disappointing to learn that PlayStation Home wouldn't drop until 2009, but we got more progress news on the promising service at last week's PlayStation Day event in London. And according to a clip from Eurogamer TV, we now have an estimated date for an open Home beta for Europe.
According to Home's creative director, Ron Festejo, Euro gamers will have a chance to participate in a public beta in November. This will happen after Sony has had a chance to "expand on the closed beta phase" in July:
“Home is currently in a closed beta phase,” he said. “We have between 8,000 and 10,000 users in this closed beta phase. Around July we’re going to be expanding on the closed beta phase and allowing more people to gradually come in, and then in November this year we’ll be going to the open beta.”
As for that extension, Festejo said it allows them to "have more conversations with our community," and that the feedback they've received so far has resulted in many changes already. Sony asked a ton of questions, it seems, and the answers to those questions are helping them make Home everything it can be. If you watch that broadcast in its entirety, you'll also hear him talk more about launching games within Home, so you'll want to check it out. But we US gamers are still hoping for an open beta, too, and we'll let you know when/if that's going to happen.
