Pure Identical On PS3 And Xbox 360

Be patient with developers, give them enough time, and eventually, they'll make things right for all platform owners. At least, that's the way we see it.

The days of inferior PlayStation 3 versions of multiplatform games are rapidly disappearing, as yet another developer has stepped up to claim their upcoming effort is identical on both the PS3 and Xbox 360. According to Eurogamer, Pure director Jason Avent said that this off-road racer was already "up to standard" in January, and when asked if both versions would be the same, he said:

"It's the same; exactly the same. I'd say around January time we had all the functionality in the PS3 version that we had in the 360. Now we've got them both running and 30 frames per second is our target. It does dip down, but we've got months to optimise it. We do side-by-side comparisons just like you guys do."

Avent further mentioned that he had access to a PS3 SDK quite some time ago due to his work with ATV vs. Off-Road Fury 3 and ATV vs. Off-Road Fury 4. This was when we knew Black Rock as Climax studios, but things tend to change when you get bought by Disney. Anyway, even though the 360 was the lead development console for Pure, the team worked hard to get the PS3 version up to snuff, so we can expect the same experience as 360 owners when the game drops this fall. Avent describes this racer as an "off-road trick racing game," with the focus being on "fun" rather than simulated racing. This will very likely appeal to a wide variety of gamers out there, especially those who have enjoyed ATV racing games in the past.

We'll bring you more on Pure in due time, but for now, just take solace in the fact that yet another multiplatform game should be identical on both the PS3 and 360. And it won't be much longer before the developers start to use the PS3 as the lead platform - some are already doing it - and that's when you may see a gap begin to appear...

But what I don't get is that the PS3 is capable of more than the 360. If a game is identical to the xbox version, I figure the devs haven't really optimized the PS3 version. Sorry, but this is just to calm the fanboys... nothing to do with optimizing for the two platforms.

You can only optimize as much as you understand. The less you understand, the less you can optimize. The more you understand, the more you can optimize. And how do we communicate with hardware? Through software. Better development of tools will allow for better understanding of hardware which is what developers are seeing and reporting of the PS3. More and more games are being equal in quality if not better (although there already are some) than the 360. More and more developers are developing games with the PS3 as their lead platform. And developers are starting to come out to voice that there is still more that they can achieve with the PS3 as they've learned more about the hardware. No fanboyism here, just FACTS.

developers should stop making identical ps3 n x360 versions of their games,if i wanted 50-50 graphics i would have bought a 360 (no offence),developers should wake up, the time for wrapping xbox games up in ps3 cases should end. im not a fanboy(if there was such a thing), im just tired of buying xbox games 4 my ps3

If a developer leads a game out on the 360, it means they have to port to the PS3. If they develop SEPARATELY for each platform, that's when you get the truly identical versions, because they take the effort to optimize the game for both consoles. In this particular case, it seems the developers did both: they started on the 360, but due to recent experience with the PS3 architecture, they worked to optimize Pure for Sony's system as well.

Now, in the future, we know for a fact that more and more third-party developers will start to lead out on the PS3. When this happens, I believe you'll start to see more of what the console is capable of, and it will also point out a few of the shortcomings in the Xbox 360. But as usual, it's a wait and see situation.

This is the DUMBEST thing I've EVER heard... A system's power should be tested and utilized to it's FULLEST extent at any and every time. Who the hell wants to get a $500,000 car and have it perform like a $50,000 car just because they were made on the same day or whatever. I know that analogy is stupid, but so is the 50/50 concept of gaming systems. I don't have to take this... I'm goin' home... these mofos then p'ed me off. X-(

it may be a step but it's like what Chilchillabes said,ps3 owners expect ps3 graphics n not xbox graphics, what's the point of buying a ferrari if you only drive it at 30 mph. it may be a step foward 4 x360, but the ps3 is being dragged backwards.

In my honest opinion, I dont think we will ever see a multiplatform game that shows the PS3's copy being at its full potential. Seems like the devs try to make a game identical on both systems for the sake of money. If a game is more superior on one system than the other then that game will get more sales. We probably will only see the PS3's full potential in exclusive games. This is all just my OPINION though so dont flame me! >_<
