Pure Identical On PS3 And Xbox 360
Be patient with developers, give them enough time, and eventually, they'll make things right for all platform owners. At least, that's the way we see it.
The days of inferior PlayStation 3 versions of multiplatform games are rapidly disappearing, as yet another developer has stepped up to claim their upcoming effort is identical on both the PS3 and Xbox 360. According to Eurogamer, Pure director Jason Avent said that this off-road racer was already "up to standard" in January, and when asked if both versions would be the same, he said:
"It's the same; exactly the same. I'd say around January time we had all the functionality in the PS3 version that we had in the 360. Now we've got them both running and 30 frames per second is our target. It does dip down, but we've got months to optimise it. We do side-by-side comparisons just like you guys do."
Avent further mentioned that he had access to a PS3 SDK quite some time ago due to his work with ATV vs. Off-Road Fury 3 and ATV vs. Off-Road Fury 4. This was when we knew Black Rock as Climax studios, but things tend to change when you get bought by Disney. Anyway, even though the 360 was the lead development console for Pure, the team worked hard to get the PS3 version up to snuff, so we can expect the same experience as 360 owners when the game drops this fall. Avent describes this racer as an "off-road trick racing game," with the focus being on "fun" rather than simulated racing. This will very likely appeal to a wide variety of gamers out there, especially those who have enjoyed ATV racing games in the past.
We'll bring you more on Pure in due time, but for now, just take solace in the fact that yet another multiplatform game should be identical on both the PS3 and 360. And it won't be much longer before the developers start to use the PS3 as the lead platform - some are already doing it - and that's when you may see a gap begin to appear...

You can only optimize as much as you understand. The less you understand, the less you can optimize. The more you understand, the more you can optimize. And how do we communicate with hardware? Through software. Better development of tools will allow for better understanding of hardware which is what developers are seeing and reporting of the PS3. More and more games are being equal in quality if not better (although there already are some) than the 360. More and more developers are developing games with the PS3 as their lead platform. And developers are starting to come out to voice that there is still more that they can achieve with the PS3 as they've learned more about the hardware. No fanboyism here, just FACTS.

Now, in the future, we know for a fact that more and more third-party developers will start to lead out on the PS3. When this happens, I believe you'll start to see more of what the console is capable of, and it will also point out a few of the shortcomings in the Xbox 360. But as usual, it's a wait and see situation.
