Rumor Revival: EA Causes Mass Effect 2 To Go Multi
This generation, it's getting more and more difficult for console manufacturers to hang onto third-party exclusive titles. This is why there have been so many rumors regarding Bioshock 2 and Mass Effect 2; could these Xbox 360 exclusives be coming to the PlayStation 3? Well, while the common assumption these days is that Microsoft paid out a big chunk of cash to keep Bioshock exclusive, they won't be able to retain Mass Effect as a 360 exclusive. This is, of course, due to EA's potentially full takeover of the franchise.
More evidence of this has arrived courtesy of Xbox Evolved, and it's the following statement that should be of interest to PS3 owners:
"What is even more interesting is that Microsoft not mentioning Mass Effect 2 at all this year confirms what many Xbox fans have feared, and everyone else knew—Electronic Arts is taking complete control of the franchise from Microsoft, and the franchise will be finding its way to PlayStation 3 in one form or another."
We haven't heard anything official from EA or Microsoft (or Sony) on this matter, but once again, we have to assume that Mass Effect 2 will be a multi-console release. This should come as very good news to RPG fans out there, because the original nabbed plenty of awards in 2007. Stay tuned for more as we try to confirm this rumor.
