Rumor: Trophies Arrive With Firmware 2.4 Update In June?
The latest rumor that has been getting mucho attention surrounds the impending launch of Trophies for the PlayStation 3. These would be similar to Achievements found on the Xbox 360 since the system's launch, and many gamers have been eagerly anticipating their arrival.
According to a post at the PS3Forums and further reported on by PSU, we can expect to see firmware update 2.4 right around the time of the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots launch. This update will include "improved Audio/Video communication," but more importantly, it should also feature PlayStation Trophies. This is great news, but bear in mind that they're not talking about the 3D trophies that will come with the release of PlayStation Home. These are the 2D ones we'll find on the XMB (which is just fine by us), and some developers are already looking to incorporate these Trophies into their games. We'll need more information before we can officially list out the firmware 2.4 features, but we're hoping this early info is true.
Some will say that Trophies are long past due on the PS3, while others really don't care about the idea. It's nice to have certain goals to strive for when playing a game, but some players contend that trophies or achievements can make games more of a chore. Well, either way, we see any new addition to the PS3 as one that might be beneficial.

So please Sony, give us in-game XMB so we can get back to being excited by all those fantastic other features that come our way.
