NPD April 08 System Sales: PS3 & X360 Flop, Nintendo Wins Big
If there was ever a time where I would call something an epic disaster, this would be it. Analysts have long predicted April 2008 hardware sales to be incredible, considering the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV. Well, it looks like analysts, such as Michael Pachter, were wrong again. Dead wrong, in fact. So wrong, that it's painful. But the epic disaster isn't how off the predictions were, it's how bad the sales were. Many expected the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 to sell, sell, sell with the launch of GTAIV, but instead, both consoles were left on store shelves - moving a nearly identical figure of 188k units each. This, in contrast, is a major hurl downwards compared to March's hardware sales. The PlayStation 2 also barely saw movement, pushing 124.5k consoles out of retailers. The PSP fared better than all, placing third, by selling 193k units.
Once again, it's Nintendo that came out on top, as an explosive 714k Nintendo Wiis were purchased last month, and 415k Nintendo DS Lites. The numbers are no doubt staggering, and we can only wonder what Microsoft's and Sony's moves are next, and how they'll bounce back for May.
Nintendo Wii 714K
Nintendo DS 415K
PSP 193K
PlayStation 3 188K
Xbox 360 188K
PlayStation 2 124.5K

May and June should be bigger months for the PS3. You have to remember that GTAIV only came out with two days left in April, maybe people were probably waiting for their rebate checks to come in before buying a console and GTAIV.

For someone who didn't play countless hours of Melee, Brawl will be a blast.
I can't help but wish Brawl would have been on a true next-gen system.
The level creator is cool, albeit simple.
My friend doesn't even freakin' touch his Wii unless we're over.

Problem is that just like others, his wii is barely touched now, with the exception of brawl. I told him honestly, its better to own a 360 and ps3 together over a wii 360 or wii ps3 combo
This way, you won't miss out on anything. but thats just my opinion

Waste of my fucking money. Returning it, saving up for MGS4 PS3 Bundle

if anything it seems it only brings the gaming industry down, it seems very gimicky, but hey thats what the general public loves so thats why it keeps selling, its a real shame in my eyes cause i think its hurting the industry

The Wii is like all those popular board games that sell millions around the world but families play for only a little while and it gets put away in the store cupboard.
The crazy thing is that my nephew who will be 9 in a couple of months doesn't want a Wii for his birthday as he's played so much on his friends Wii they are both bored themselves, its not as if they by their own games every month. Its like that episode of the Simpsons when that game Boneruncher II or whatever come out and every kid wants it but over time the product become boring and they find the cup and ball more entertaining. That's what happening with the Wii with many gamers and kids.
