More Rumored Details For Update 2.40
Rumors continue to fly concerning firmware update 2.40 for the PlayStation 3, and the more we hear, the more we're starting to believe this will be one of the most significant updates in the system's young lifespan.
The latest batch began with whoelse at Sev1512, who claims to have an "inside source" from Sony and despite issuing the information, warns that none of this is "set in stone." Evidently, update 2.40 should include XMB chat features for all games, the previously rumored 2D trophies (70% of titles should already support this addition), and "Video Coding and groundwork for the Movie Store," which is supposedly slated to launch in September. Now, while this inside source does say that firmware 2.40 will be available before Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots releases on June 12, he also admits that all these features may not make it into the update. Now, we never put a whole lot of stock into so-called "insider info," but this goes in line with other comments from other sources, so perhaps these details are accurate.
However, and is always the case in these situations, nothing is confirmed or concrete until Sony says it is. We'll be on the lookout for any response from Sony - it may pop up on their official blog this week - but until then, here's hoping all this cool stuff will drop with firmware update 2.40.

I'm not much of an online gamer, but I'm excited about the possibility of never having to read this comment again:
"Hey Sony where is our damn in-game XMB!!!"
