Full Soul Calibur IV Fighter Roster
You know, July 29 isn't that far off, and we figured it was time to start paying attention to Soul Calibur IV, which could very well be the best fighter of the year. VideoGamesBlogger listed out the full 31 characters for the game, and we figured that was a good idea (see the list below), especially considering so many players are looking for returning favorites and new additions to the franchise.
Let's not forget that the original title back on the Dreamcast became one of the highest rated games in history, and while the sequels didn't fare quite as well, we're all eagerly anticipating this fourth installment. Why? Because it's on next-gen consoles, of course! Check out the full roster:
Returning Characters
- Amy
- Astaroth
- Cassandra Alexandra
- Cervantes de Leon
- Ivy (Isabella Valentine)
- Kilik
- Lizardman (Aeon Calcos)
- Maxi
- Mitsurugi (Heishiro)
- Nightmare
- Raphael Sorel
- Rock (Nathaniel Adams)
- Seong Mi-na
- Setsuka
- Siegfried Schtauffen
- Sophitia Alexandra
- Taki
- Talim
- Tira
- Voldo
- Xianghua Chai
- Yoshimitsu
- Yun-seong
- Zasalamel
New Characters
- Angol Fear
- Ashlotte
- Darth Vader ("Star Wars" guest character on the PlayStation 3 version)
- Hilde(gard) von Krone
- Scheherazade
- Shura
- Yoda ("Star Wars" guest character on the Xbox 360 version)
Yep, the likes of Maxi, Sophitia, Nightmare, Mitsurugi and Taki will make fans of the old titles smile, and those new characters should make for worthy additions. We've already heard about Vader for the PS3 and Yoda for the 360, of course, but we must remind you Namco recently informed us that the "other" Star Wars character for your preferred platform may come up for download "at a later date." So for all you "Star Wars" fans who were instantly disappointed to learn you couldn't watch Vader and Yoda square off, cheer up...you may get your opportunity eventually.

anyway, just wanted to add about what Ben said...
Soul Edge WAS the best Soul Calibur game ever.. I know it was the first and i know it wasnt as flashy as thelater games, but imo it is as playable today as it ever was.
i know that when Soul Edge 2 first came out on the Dreamie it had changed a lot, it stil retained its controls from the PSX to some extent.. but it had changed a lot!
but has anyone else noticed that with every game AFTER Soul calibur on the Dreamcast, its slowly going back to its roots?
the only thing left to implement to complete the transition from original past gen Soul Edge to Next NEXT gen Soul Edge is being able to break weapons and fight fisty cuffs.

as for 'will tekken 6 be better', imo not in a cat hell of a chance will it be! lol.. but thats just my opinion.
dont get me wrong, i love Tekken, i think its the best hand to hand combat game out at the moment, but i personally feel that Soul Calibur is way above it in terms of tight ness, environments, characters, styles and playability.
Tekkens Martial arts may be fairly faithful, but it could be so much better. for a game that insists that it's authentic, it isnt really. even though it is more authentic than all the fighting games out there at the moment.
but Soul Calibur on the other hand is just amazing, doesnt pretend to have certain styles.. a staff form is a staff form, its not Wing Chun or Eagle Claw, its just what it is. a chinese sword is used how it should be used... an axe is wielded like an axe. slow but powerful, fast yet light.. a perfect balance between styles.
thats where Tekken imo suffers.
but with each series its got better. the ONLY thing that has never improved with tekken and which is annoying as hell, and that is the back arch when you are defeated.. god i hate that move.

but I agree, when you start to really get in to SC, anything like that will show up as a glaring glitch. I thought that SC2 was a better game engine personally.
and yeh, that back arch when they hold their stomach/ back... really hate that.
Just seems that with all the detail that Tekken goes in to, like Law's 1 inch strike, the way the power is delivers and the twisting of the arm to deliver the blow is just totally spot on, or like the XinYi moves are very good, (as examples) are all totally recognisable and done very very well.
yet the one thing they dont change or at least try to is the falling over. a n n o y i n g, lol.
