World in Conflict Dev: 'PlayStation 3 Challenging'

I'll admit it, I like hearing developers talk about their experiences with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and comparing them both. And so here's another one, this time from World in Conflict developer Massive Entertainment. World in Conflict was one of 2007's best PC titles, and was published by Sierra.

The console ports for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are on their way for a Fall 2008 release, and in an interview with Videogamer.com, Petter Sydow, VP of Development, had this to say: "Well, it hasn't been easy, but I think it's safe to say that we're tackling it pretty well! The PS3 version has been the more challenging platform of the two, but we've been hell-bent on giving both consoles the same content, and so far we're holding up to that ambition. There are naturally some minor graphical differences, but overall, gamers of either platform are going to have virtually identical experiences."

Massive is trying to aim for a simultaneous worldwide release of both console versions, but aren't sure if that's going to happen, stating that it's "too early" to tell if both ports will be ready side-by-side. Uh-oh. So if the PS3 version doesn't launch along side the X360 game, don't be surprised. Still, Sydow states: "Release dates have a tendency to be very fluid as unexpected things happen during development, so we'll keep on working and cross our fingers."

Again. If the dev. team cannot show me better gfx, etc than the 360, I will not bother buying this game. I bought the PS3 because it can out-perform the 360. Developers need to put in the effort to utilize the additional processing power of the PS3. I'm just going to have to wait and judge for myself when he game comes out.

well said infekt. When developers dont put more time into ps3 ports xbox games r sold off as ps3 games.Even if developers use the ps3 port as the lead, the ps3 version is usually 'dumbed' down to the xbox version

Usually I agree and it would be nice for he PS3 to get superior versions but honestly what benefit will it give the developers if they were to give the PS3 version slightly better visuals? They would put in the extra effort for nothing. It makes sense to push the PS3 if the game was exclusive, trying to see how far they could go and how far their ambitions would take them.
As long the Ps3 isn't a dumb down version we shouldn't have anything to complain about.

Devs need to set the build model as such:
PS3-PC-X360-WII Hard? not really just cut your flops down from whatever system your porting from the PS3! If they(PC,X360,WII)gamers dont like it go buy a DAMN PS3!!! Why us PS3 owners have to suffer cuz the system you invested in, doesn't have the tech necessary to reach PS3 quality? Im looking at you too WII! ><
