SCEA: Killzone 2 "Delayed" For A Better Timed Release
Some were disappointed to learn that the highly anticipated Killzone 2 wouldn't release until February of next year, but as it turns out, Guerilla and Sony instituted the delay due to timing.
First of all, seeing as how the game never really had a concrete date to begin with, it's difficult to say if it has actually been "delayed." But that's what most gamers are calling it, primarily because Killzone 2 has held a "Fall 2008" release estimate for quite a while. In response to the move, Sony's Ron Eagle had this to say over at the official PlayStation blog:
"Just wanted to add a quick reply on the “delay” of Killzone 2 to Feb 2009. To be clear, there is nothing wrong or causing a delay to the development of the title. We (SCEA) had to look at the fall calendar with SOCOM, LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, Resistance 2, plus some PSN titles and make a decision where each game should come out. Killzone 2 was moved to Feb 2009 to make sure we didn’t have three shooters in the marketplace competing for retail dollars during the same holiday season. The game will be great and it will be out in Feb 2009 in both Europe and North America."
Essentially, he wanted to disarm the assumption that something is "wrong" due to this delay; that there must be a problem with the development process. Well, this really isn't the case; like we said before, it's just a matter of marketing and timing. Makes sense, yes?

I dont think it will kill the series tatsujin. Although i really loved KZ, i think there is room for lots of improvement and it seems to be really coming along. Should prove to be an epic time

Yes, we had GTA4, but so did the 360.
Yes, were going to have the most awesome game of the year in MGS4.
And then we can hope that LBP is as huge as we want it to be.
Then we have a FPS shooter in Resistance, which I can't wait for, but I don't get as excited about FPS anymore.
Then we have Socom, which is great, but I don't really play online, so without a campaign, it doesn't matter much to me.
Then Motorstorm, which is cool to mix things up a bit, but I'm pretty sure I wont be buying it.
And well Haze, yeah, that's embarrassing. It's already being called "Lair 2" by a lot of 360 fanboys.
And no Killzone 2 this year.
Look at what the 360 is going to have: Gears of War 2, Ninja Gaiden, Too Human, Fable 2, and Banjo right?
If anything, I think the 360's lineup looks as good.
Of course, I don't think any of those games are on MGS4's level, but by Fall, nobody will remember MGS4 as much.

Resistance 2 is going to kick a lot of ass, as will Gears 2. Ninja Gaiden II is going to be awesome, but let's not forget about God of War III in 2009 for the PS3. Too Human may or may not make it this year, and to be honest, I don't think many people are highly anticipating Fable 2 (although I'll probably play it). And of course, as you said, MGS4 probably overrides most any other title this year, and I do have high hopes for LBP and MotorStorm: PR.
Basically, if we're looking at only 2008, I think the two lineups match up fairly well. But if we look at the next 12-16 months, I definitely have to give the nod to the PS3. Don't forget about things like the Uncharted sequel and potentially great RPGs like White Knight Chronicles...

While this year might end up pretty even, I can see the PS3 having the upper-hand for sure in 2009.
The PS3 desperately needs MGS4 to get nothing but 9.5 and up. What has me a lil' worried is that issue the OPM guy who reviewed the game had. About the ending dragging along. I can see reviewers marking it down for that.
