Solid DMC4 Sales Should Clear Path For Devil May Cry 5
Devil May Cry 4 was both a critical and financial success when it released earlier this year, which means we can probably expect to see a fifth entry at some point.
Capcom has just revealed that their fiscal 2008 sales increased to over 83 billion yen (about $806 million), and DMC4 was a major part of that boost: it has now sold over 2 million copies worldwide since its February launch. At last year's E3, series producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi said that they need Capcom's go-ahead before his team could start working on any new DMC installments, and with these recent positive numbers, there's really no good reason for the publisher to put a stop to this profitable franchise. Last year, Kobayashi had this to say-
"...personally I would like to continue with Devil May Cry and create more and more games for this franchise. Devil May Cry 4 has turned out to be a very cool-looking stylish game for those that have a PS3 or a [Xbox] 360. If you donít buy Devil May Cry 4 you would think ĎWhy didnít I buy it?í Thereís no worth of having a PS3 or [Xbox] 360 without Devil May Cry 4. Thatís the kind of game itís going to turn out to be." Well, DMC4 is certainly one of our favorite games of the generation so far, so if Capcom made Devil May Cry 5, we wouldn't complain. Hell, we'd consider confirmation of a fifth DMC as very, very happy news.
