SCEE: "No News On The Afrika Front"

Okay, now we have to wonder: can we accurately file away Afrika under the unfortunate "Vaporware" heading? Or, is a recent retailer listing correct, and Sony is just lying low before they launch a big ol' marketing campaign?

The Videogaming247 blog asked SCEE if there were any new developments in the Afrika camp, and their response wasn't exactly encouraging- Im afraid there is no news on the Afrika front at the moment." However, as they pointed out, Play-Asia lists a Japanese August 28 release for the PlayStation 3 exclusive, so we're not entirely sure what to believe at this moment. Early on, Afrika was one of the most impressive-looking titles on the horizon for the PS3, but it kinda dropped off the radar. Other games, like The Getaway and L.A. Noire have suffered similar fates, but we're relatively sure both of those games are still in the development phase. We really don't have much in the way of reliable information for Afrika, though, and if it is coming out August 28 in Japan, we should expect to see new details soon. Sooo...where are they?

Perhaps we'll hear more about the game at this year's E3, which would probably turn some heads. In the meantime, we'll labor along in this media blackout and hope more info pops up at some point.

It should have been mooted as a technical demo only. SCEE could simply release a rolling "screensaver" type technical demo that shows beautiful real-time rendered scenes of Africa, in-turn showing off the "power" of the PS3. I think a game based around this idea is rather odd.

Additionally I feel the "Earth" visualiser could have been so much better. It would have been nice to see the earth rise above a moon horizon for example. I also felt some of the earth lighting sequences had very garish glare on the planet texture itself... and the actual earth texture itself is too low res :( One just gets the feeling that wherever Sony can cut corners they do :( Sony should get more community members to develop visualisers and widgets/gadgets for the XMB...

Q!

What do you think about The Last Of Us: Remastered?
Fantastic! Can't wait to get it!
Good, not sure if I'll buy immediately.
Eh, not bad, but I don't care.
It's just a stupid money grab.
