Believe It: PlayBoy Cyber Girl Of The Year Is The Real Deal
What do you see here? An impossibly gorgeous girl who would laugh if you told her you were into video games, right? Wrong. Her eyes would light right up and she'd tell you how she got the Zodiac Spear in Final Fantasy XII. No, it's not a dream. It's Jo Garcia, PlayBoy's "Cyber Girl of the Year" for 2007. She emerged the winner after beating out 52 weeks of rival models in an online-only competition, and according to a recent interview she gave to Kotaku, the stereotypes need to die.
“People don’t understand that that the whole gaming world is not just for geeks, and assume that every person who plays video games is a geek that wears glasses,” said Garcia. “It’s a misnomer that needs to be put to rest.”
She plays all kinds of games on both consoles and the PC, and she also owns a DS and PSP, both of which she "carries with her everywhere." In fact, if she could get a job being a game tester, she'd do it "all day long." Well...we assume the modeling gig pays better, so we're betting she'll stick with that for a while, but it's still mighty interesting. Even more interesting is her love of RPGs, which is often known as the haven for hardcore gamers. Final Fantasy is her favorite and she elaborated-
“I like those games because they have a lot of sidequests,” said Garcia. “You can build up your character doing small things. I’m 100 hours into FFXII and I’m not even done with the game yet. I’m doing all the hunts and the sidequests - I’m probably a third into the game and my guys are at level 60. I hold my characters high so when I go through the game it’s a lot easier.”
And how's about that Zodiac Spear that even the most avid and long-time gamers had to strive to achieve?
“I actually got the Zodiac Spear the first time I played it… you have to go through hell to get that spear, but I happened to get it the first time because someone told me about it. You can’t open certain boxes, but then you have to go through and fight that nasty esper at the end… I died three times before I actually beat it.”
Now, we all know what you're thinking: "yeah, she could just do a little homework and pretend to be a gamer." In fact, Garcia even admits she has heard of models being paid off to act like a gamer, saying simply, "sex sells." But don't get that idea about Jo; she's the real deal. So how does she continue to prove herself and how should other girls help to kill the stereotype that hot chicks don't play games? "Just playing them," she says.
“Even something as small as just doing this. I’ve shot Playboy stuff with my PSP, and people have asked if I really play video games, and I respond back. I think, just getting more involved in it, and doing more with it, and seeing where it goes.”
Well, that tears it. You win, Jo. You have officially become every guy gamer's dream girl, so don't be surprised to see thousands of marriage proposals from guys who can't believe someone as hot as you is running around in FFXII with the Zodiac Spear. Wait...hold on a second, and I'll draft my proposal now.
