Bioshock PS3 Set For October 2008

As the cat is already out of the bag, this is kinda anticlimactic, but it's always nice to have the official word. Oh, and it's even better to get an estimated release date!

Today, 2K Games has announced that Bioshock is currently in development for the PlayStation 3 at the publisher's 2K Marin studio. The hotly anticipated title will hit store shelves this October with "new features and content that heighten the award-winning experience." Originally exclusive to the Xbox 360 and PC last year, the game received huge critical acclaim and multiple Game of the Year nominations and awards from numerous gaming sites and publications. People just couldn't stop raving:

"Since BioShock for Xbox 360 and Games for Windows won countless 2007 Game of the Year awards, we are excited to see the impact of this stellar title for the PLAYSTATION 3 system when it debuts this fall," said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. "Over the coming months we look forward to revealing the new features and content that will make this a must-have game for its new audience, as well as for those who enjoyed it on the other platforms."

Players move through the mysterious, intimidating and beautiful undersea world of Rapture. The Splicers will be a constant danger, but you will have the ability to enhance and upgrade yourself through Plasmids. If you're not yet familiar with the game's premise, you'll definitely want to experience one of the best offerings of this generation later this year. We already have plenty of details concerning the PS3 effort, and as 2K says here, we can expect to see even more in the coming months. PS3 owners, as of October, 2K officially welcomes you into the Bioshock realm.

They shouldn't have waited so long they lost a lot of potential sales because of all the great games comming out for the ps3 this year

I played it a bit on my friend's PC. And just from the 20 mins that I played, I could tell it was something special. The feeling I got was sorta similiar to the feeling I first got when I played Half Life 2.

Bioshock was one of my favorite games last year, and in fact, I agree with anybody who gave it Game of the Year. Uncharted and God of War II were amazing, and it could possibly be a three-way tie, but...if I had to give it to one game, it would've been Bioshock.

xbox360 fanboys can now suck down a XL can of 0WN3D. Granted, this comes out a little over a year, but a few 360 friends of mine are already crying over this news. Personally, I never could get into the game on the 360 when I played the demo. It felt like an FPS with just too much going on. Good news for the PS3 though. Might be a year late, and it might not drive sales for PS3, but it will be another quality game available for PS3 owners.

Makes ya wonder if Mass Effect will be on the horizon. If I was right about Microsoft having Bioshock as a 'timed exclusive' then I can assume it's only a matter of time.

...I have no idea why 360 owners would be "crying" about this. They already had one of the best games of the generation, and they got a chance to play it long before PS3 owners.

I think they'd be more disappointed in the obvious fact that Bioshock 2 will be a multiplatform - and presumably - simultaneous release for both the PS3 and 360.

I am extremely happy to hear this news. I thought the commercial release was about a year away. This is one for my shopping trolley, and not buying other games recently has proved to be the right choice. This will be a worthy AAA title for my collection. I would rather a few games, but they need to be the best in their class, and Bioshock is one of them :)

Just on point about Haze. If one is desperate to purchase an FPS now, if you do not own TimeShift yet, I think this would be a better buy than Haze. I think TimeShift has been overlooked...

Q!

I'll keep some money for this just in case it isn't a naff port AND I don't need a many gb install. Otherwise I'll just get it from the cheap bin for my 360.
