Fallout 3 Dev: "Bigger Than Expected"

We know for a fact that Fallout 3 is going to be huge when it drops, primarily due to the legion of fans the original title created on the PC back in the mid-'90s. It remains a favorite amongst many gamers from that generation, and the fact that a new installment is coming to next-gen consoles adds even more excitement.

From what we've heard, this is one strategy game that's going to be extraordinarily deep and engaging, which of course is good news for fans of the genre. But even then, we may have underestimated the amount of content. According to a TheGameReviews interview with Bethesda's Pete Hines, the developers themselves were even surprised to see how much they added, saying the game would be "a lot bigger than initially planned":

Its a Content thing. It was one of those things like the world map is about the size that we expected but the amount of stuff that we ended up filling it with ended up being a lot more than we had originally planned. We are always big believers in play the game and see how it feels. And we play the game and if there does not feel like there is enough to do here, we need to put some more.

We are in this part of the world and like we should do something here with this and there needs to be two more quests in this town because I only have three things to do on my quest list. So we want you to always have you know three, four, five, six different quests that you are picking from. Like what is it I want to do now? Or multiple things you might be trying to do at the same time.

Hey, like we always say, the bigger the better. Fallout 3 is something we're going to pay close attention to over the span of the next few months, and this is excellent news. Bring it on, Bethesday; we can take it!
