Shenmue III To Make Surprise Appearance At E3?
Oh man. It's back.
Most will remember Shenmue with a great fondness; it was one of the Dreamcast's most critically acclaimed titles and some even consider it to be one of the best games ever. The sequel, which released back in October 2002 for the Xbox, didn't fare quite so well, but that didn't stop everyone from pining for a third installment. And for the past 5+ years, we've heard a gazillion rumors regarding the existence of Shenmue III, and each and every time, those rumors got squashed. Big time. Sega usually just says there are no such plans to make the game, and any evidence to the contrary is false. We expect that same reaction to this, but hey, you never know- according to Spanish gaming site MeriStation, Sega has signed an Unreal Engine license extension for use in Shenmue III, which will actually be on display at this year's E3. ...yeah, right. We'll believe it when we see it, but we have to say, we're crossing our fingers.
The Videogaming237 blog said they sent Sega an e-mail about this and expect to get laughed at, which is what we expect, too. On the other hand, the time has come for Sega to really let loose with a big title, and a third Shenmue is past due...if that name even exists, anymore. We'll let you know what transpires.
