Home Open Beta Still Set For 2008, Rollout Like Gmail
Most PS3 owners were disappointed to learn that Sony's ambitious online community program, PlayStation Home, wouldn't make its previously expected 2008 launch. Instead, we won't be seeing the finalized version until some time next year, but that doesn't mean the scheduled open beta isn't still on track.
According to the GameLife blog, PlayStation Network's Susan Panico said the Home beta is still on track for a 2008 release. It'll become available "at the end of the year," and the "rollout will be similar to Gmail." ...we're not entirely sure what that means, but we're happy to know the open beta hasn't disappeared. In fact, considering it is indeed "open," one could argue that Home is actually "launching" later this year, because many of us will be able to log on and peruse. Sure, it'll go through several incarnations before it's finally ready to leave the beta phase, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy it during that time, right? The closed beta has been in effect in Europe for a while now, but anything "closed" can't really be considered a "launch." So stay steady, US gamers, because you will see Home in all its potential glory some time in 2008.
Of course, we're kinda just grasping at straws, saying the open beta is basically the same as the official Home launch. But at this point, we're going to take what we can get, and run with it.

All these delays are gonna build up the hype to epic proportions. I'm afraid it's not gonna live up to expectations.
