Rock Band 2 Concept Box Art Revealed
It shouldn't be a huge shocker to learn that a sequel to Rock Band is planned; last year's music blockbuster was one of the best games of the year, and the first to introduce more than just a guitar. Guitar Hero IV is following suit later this year, but it was Harmonix's pioneering title that started that expansion.
Anyway, according to Joystiq, an "anonymous tipster" has found a survey conducted by Listen Research for Rock Band 2. Those who wished to contribute their time were shown two different box art concepts for the game, and then given two very simple instructions:
1. Indicate which of the two covers below would attract you more if you were shopping for a new game in a store.
2. Indicate which game box cover you believe is a better fit with the description of the game.
One of the concepts is posted here; if you want to see the other, head on over to Joystiq (they're not radically different). We're still waiting for baseline information on Rock Band 2, but the survey issued the following description-
"Rock Band 2 lets you and your friends play as a virtual 4-person band, in person or online, to rock out to some of the biggest rock anthems from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s. Rock Band 2 will be a full featured sequel, similar to full featured sequels you see released by other big video game franchises, such as Need for Speed, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy, Call of Duty, or Halo. In the music/rhythm genre, it is similar to the feature jumps made from Guitar Hero I to Guitar Hero II or Guitar Hero II to Guitar Hero III."
Well, that's certainly encouraging. When they talk about a "full featured sequel," we assume they're trying to say that RB2 won't be a rehash of the original. In other words, it would probably be a mistake to assume the sequel will be identical to the first game, only with different songs. We expect to see more info on Rock Band 2 very soon, but in the meantime, go ahead and pick your favorite box art.
P.S. Yes, we realize the Xbox 360 logo is in this pic; it's in both for this survey. But don't read too much into it because we're 99.9% certain the game is coming to the PS3.
