Rumor: MGS Comes To PSN In July?

If this is true, Konami really has the timing down pat when it comes to their long-running and critically acclaimed Metal Gear Solid franchise.

For some time now, MGS fans have been hoping to see the original title that began it all hit the PlayStation Network. Of all the PS1 games that should become downloadable on the PlayStation 3, most avid gamers will say it's probably a toss-up between Final Fantasy VII and Metal Gear Solid. Well, it seems Konami may be prepared to announce the latter for the PSN! According to several sources, including PartnerNet and PlayStationBeyond, two rumors have surfaced: one, we've heard before, and it involves the possibility of an upcoming software update for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots that includes in-game XMB and trophy support. The second says MGS comes to the PSN next month, and if other sources can be trusted, it also comes to the Xbox Live Marketplace at the same time.

Now, if they release the original MGS in downloadable form one month after MGS4 drops, that's great timing, wouldn't you say? In addition, we're talking about one of the best games ever, so it makes perfect sense that Konami makes it available once again. It's kinda like a re-release in digital form...and the fans won't have any problem with that. We'll let you know if we can confirm this rumor.
