FFXIII Set For Private Square-Enix Event In August

Okay, so we won't be getting a Final Fantasy XIII demo at this year's E3, but that doesn't mean we won't be hearing anything from the Square-Enix camp this summer.

The latest Famitsu issue has turned us on to the publisher's upcoming private event set for August, entitled "DK S 3713." Sure, it's a bizarre name, but Forever-Fantasy.net was quick to speculate that each character in the title may indicate a specific game, and as it turns out, they were probably right. If you head on over to the official website for the upcoming event, you will find the list of games that are on tap:

  • Final Fantasy XIII (PlayStation 3)
  • Final Fantasy Agito XIII (Mobile)
  • Final Fantasy Versus XIII (PlayStation 3)
  • Kingdom Hearts Coded (Mobile)
  • Kingdom Hearts358/2 Days (Nintendo DS)
  • Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep (Sony PSP)
  • Dissidia Final Fantasy (Sony PSP)
  • The 3rd Birthday (Mobile)
  • Sigma Harmonics (Nintendo DS)
  • Final Fantasy VII AC Complete (Blu-Ray)

Yep, there it is: Final Fantasy XIII in all its impending glory. Let's just hope Square-Enix actually takes this chance to give us a bunch of new details rather than repeating what we already know; if we're insanely lucky, maybe they'll even reveal a tentative release date! But all we really want is a progress report, so cross your fingers, RPG fans...

At least it says PS3 and not PS3/360.

Square is putting out waaaay too many games. And why aren't they showcasing their 360 exclusives?

Because they already did?

My speculation = 30 seconds worth new stuff in the a trailer along with old stuff... I'm not gonna hope for more 'cause I already learned my lesson the hard way.

Well at least they aren't taking chances with their flagship franchises... Changing of consoles for the Kingdom Hearts line or the Final Fantasy from Sony will probably cause unrest and maybe extreme~ism in japan. (Much like the DMC4 protest but on a GRAND scale.)

These titles are more "Square-Enix" than the ones announced for the Xbox360. As those were from mostly tri-ace games.

Well at one point they were asked about the future of the Final Fantasy series and they mentioned that they were interested in going multi-platform... now I'm not sure if that means the other games announced this week or the future Final Fantasies. My guess is they'll see how well FFXIII and VS sell and then decide. As for KH they didn't confirm which console it's going on. Remember SO was announced but no console was ever confirmed for it. SO has always been on the PS system so IGN/GameSpot naturally listed it as a future PS3 release... and we all know what happened there. So I'm just gonna keep my fingers crossed for KH.

How much time did they put into the "other" games that they are putting on the 360? I mean if they didn't take as much time as atleast FFVII did...I think we're ok to not care TOO much...but with all the time and dedication to FFXIII...maybe we'll be ok

I know this is kinda off the subject, but upon reading all of the recent news, even going as far back as the announcement that Eternal Sonata will not come to the PS3 in the US, does anyone else sense the smear campaign that Microsoft is doing to Sony with the PS3?

Yeah, I kinda get that feeling as well, but its not only Sony that suffers, its the Japanese developers as well.

When you alienate your long time followers its gonna have a pretty big repercussion. In terms of those series, sure they might flourish in the Western Markets but they'll be dead soon in Japan... If it doesn't do well in Japan its gonna hit the developers big time.
