Madden's 20th Anniversary Press Event: PlayStation Exclusive
After last year's mediocre Madden effort, PlayStation 3 owners have been on EA's case. They have every right to be, of course, after getting a game that ran at 30 frames per second while the Xbox 360 version ran at the full (and now expected) 60 frames per second. But EA Sports really wants to get back on our good side.
We've received an invite to their upcoming press event for the franchise's 20th anniversary, and it looks to be exclusively a PlayStation celebration. Madden NFL 09 will be on display and playable for both the PS3 and PSP, but nothing will be shown for the Xbox 360 and Wii versions (as far as we know). This is a very nice change of pace from a publisher that always caters to the widest possible audience of gamers possible, which usually means their titles appear on most every platform. Perhaps EA is sick of catching so much flak from PS3 owners over the past year, and they're looking to rectify the situation. Maybe what they put on display will prove that this year's Madden effort will, at the very least, be on par with other versions of the game.
Now, we can't imagine EA would do this when they're still having trouble with the PS3 hardware, so we're suddenly more excited about Madden NFL 09. We also wouldn't mind to see a statement from EA Sports at this press event, acknowledging the fact that PS3 owners are indeed disappointed with EA, and that they're doing something to regain our trust. That statement is kinda implied by making the event PlayStation exclusive, but even so, we want an apology. Oh yes, we do.
