MGS4: "Only The Beginning" Of Great PS3 Exclusives

The PlayStation 3 has already had several top-notch exclusive titles - Heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Warhawk, SingStar, etc. - but the latest is by far the biggest: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Furthermore, according to Sony's vice-president of product marketing, Scott Steinberg, it's "only the beginning." (source CVG)

Technically, it's "only the beginning" for Sony's platform, considering they plan to keep it around for a total of 10 years. That being the case, if it's only in its second year, we're not far from the starting gate. But Steinberg simply wants to remind you all that many more great exclusives are on the way:

"This is only the beginning of an ongoing software avalanche for PS3 that includes titles such as LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM: Confrontation, MotorStorm Pacific Rift and Resistance 2 that only PS3 owners will be able to exclusively enjoy."

Sure, and if you look further down the road, you can add games like Killzone 2, Gran Turismo 5 and Final Fantasy XIII to the list. There's no doubt that many gamers were waiting for MGS4 to pick up a PS3; how many more are lying in wait for any one of the aforementioned exclusives? In this generation, multiplatform releases are a driving force, but big-time exclusives still sell hardware.

Final Fantasy XIII is the reason I waited for PS3 to be released and not jump on 360 band wagon for FPS and Action games that I am not so much in to.

Understand that MGS4 is still considered a 1st Gen game for the PS3.Looking at R2 coming this fall is in it's 3rd and its a visual stunner as well. Can you image how future games would look and feel if Hideo Kojima keeps working and pushing on the PS3? Can't wait to look back at these games 10 years down the road and point out key games that started it all.1st gen PS2 games dont look like anything on 6-7th gen PS2 games, same applies here.Congo-rats to you Hideo Kojima for making MGS4 a true masterpiece!!!

Sony might have their first-party exclusives, but the 360 has their own first-party exclusives and a bunch of exclusive third-party games as well, including games that come out months before the PS3 versions.

The PS3 has more variation though. It's just funny how we PS3 users make a HUGE deal over third-party exclusives like Haze and UT3, when the 360 gets them all the time.

Does MGS4 utilize all 6 available spu's. I haven't really heard much about this, since some games only use three or four...

if the game devs make it MultiThreading there no reason why it not use ALL CPU.

but yes, coding multithread handles is much harder than single threading.

but from the quality of MGS4 audio/visual/movement. maybe it use all 6 SPE. atleast for processing the audio.

You could be using all 6 SPE's in the Cell,it does not mean you are using it to it's fullest.Dev today prolly got like 60-70% tapped into each SPE of the Cell and be using all 6.No one will crack the Cell open for a few more years...It's that advanced.History has shown that you wont see big steps in graphics and multitasking from 1st compared to 3rd gen games but more likely see it from 1st-2nd to 4th-5th generation games.
