Full Afrika Details Discovered
What is Afrika? Well, thanks to Famitsu and a recent media event in Taiwan as reported on by GNN, we now know.
As you probably could've guessed by the early media, the game is basically a Safari and you will be a photo journalist visiting the great continent of Africa. Your job is to take photos of the vast variety of animals roving the plains in the interest of research, and these assignments will come from "headquarters." After securing the location you wish to investigate, you will be led there by an AI driver or tour guide (no driving on your own), and when you reach your destination, you start snapping. You can either take the photos from the jeep or disembark to get a closer shot. This may sound easy, but ask any photo journalist who works in the field if what they do is "easy," and they'll tell you the truth...
If you get too close, the animals will get spooked and run, and the predators might attack. GNN has said the animals they've seen (giraffes, gazelles, etc.) are "extremely lifelike" and it's similar to "watching the National Geographic channel." Your camera will also be authentic, as you must change all kinds of settings including the focus and aperture. There will be different cameras available to you as well, and if you're shaky with the controller, the shot will come out blurry. The Sixaxis motion sensing can be used to adjust angles, but you'll need a steady hand! The goal is to take the best photo possible, and headquarters will determine the overall quality of your work. They'll base this on "composition, rarity and clarity."
Obviously, herein lies your incentive to do a good job. With better photos comes more funding and with more funding comes money to buy better cameras. We're wondering if you can purchase new modes of AI transportation, but as it's a Safari, your options would be somewhat limited. Anyway, Afrika is now fully detailed, and it's certainly a unique and ambitious project. Nature fans and animal lovers, this one seems to be designed specifically for you.

I'd rather be in a tribe and have to hunt for meat and learn to survive.
Its going to be like a simulated fishing game that simply doesn't work.

A video game is a video game, every single one is just an entertaining simulation. Since when has ANY video game been like real life? I have played and currently own over 500 video games (collector) and not a single one has ever truly captured the essence of the real thing in life...The only substitute for real life is real life! Don't be hatin' on Afrika

For one I'd never said it would be better to simulate a tribe and hunt for food. I said it would be better to have that sort of gameplay. Something like from Monster Hunter for the hunting and cooking of food but only done better.
About the photography not being realistic. I agree that it can never be like real life but that is also my argument. If its not like real life, then why bother. The whole point of photography is to be there to capture the moment, that's the frill in it. Can you really see yourself moving the in-game camera to save the image? How boring would GT be if all it was is you buy the car, place it somewhere and take a snapshot of it? Where's the gameplay in that?
How will this game be any better than watching a DVD on your PC and at a certain moment you take a snapshot and save it the the hard drive? Not very exciting.
I just don't think its going to work. I do applaud developers for trying something new but I think the real attraction with this game is its visuals, it just doesn't have any gameplay as far as what we're told.
Hopefully more will be reveiled about more gameplay and taking photos will be a side quest of some sort.
My comments wasn't about trying to make a game like real life although some devs give it a try, i.e EA sports.
