Killzone 2 Heads EGM E3 Issue

Although it isn't coming out until February, it still remains one of the biggest PlayStation 3 games on everyone's lips. And now that Grand Theft Auto IV and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots are out, Killzone 2 may be the single most hotly anticipated PS3 title out there.

The official PlayStation blog has been busy lately, and one of the newest posts is by SCEA Santa Monica Studio's Associate Producer, Mike Graham. The subject of his post is the upcoming EGM issue, which should be available towards the end of this month or during the first week of July. It's their special E3 issue, and guess what graces the cover, FPS fans? That's right, Guerilla's much-anticipated and much-debated shooter, Killzone 2. Here's Graham's post:

"Hello, I just wanted to bring to your attention to something a lot of people have been wanting to see more of since last E3: Yes that's right, new Killzone 2 coverage. We've got a big cover story coming up with the August issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly which should hit subscribers by the end of the week. Everyone else should be able to get their hands on it near the end of June/beginning of July on newsstands. The cover story contains a lot of great Killzone 2 coverage, including background on where the franchise has taken us, new gameplay reveals, as well as information about the developer, Guerrilla Games. Did I mention that this is also EGM's official E3 issue as well?"

Sony has already revealed their list of games they'll be presenting at E3, and Killzone 2 is certainly among them. We had a big trailer for the game last year, but now's the time for a nice, long extended gameplay trailer, don't you think?

Quite simply, this is the most important game for me. It will prove alot of Sony critics wrong... and it may be the game that finally makes good on the "next generation" promise...

I think Metal Gear Solid 4 just raised the standards on what we should see in a PS3 game. I sure hope all the other developers try to surpass it in visuals and overall quality.

MGS4 definitly raised the bar, beautiful game nothing short of spectacular. Killzone should prove to raise it once more!!

Yip eba101, it GOW3 should be a stunner. It would be good if it runs natively in 1080p though!

Another title to come good mi thinks. Agree that MGS4 is a quality product bishamon8 (from what I have seen thus far), however the fact for me is that these games would look evenmore spectacular if they all run 1080p natively.

My gripe has always been that Sony trumped true HD gaming, a new experience et al, but all we have (in the majority of cases) are average "cross-platform" ports that do not do justice to the much tauted hardware Sony had us believe in. To convince me that the PS3 is not an intermediatry step toward true HD high resolution gaming we should have game engines running in 1080p without too many problems, this is not the case today.

Only few titles do it, and there again, they may be doing because certain things have had to be left out. In the case of GT5 it seems they are managing to squeeze everything out of the system, eventhough tearing is evident sometimes. Bad Company is another game which does 1080p, again though sometimes the frame rate drops and there is tearing too.

True HD gaming for me means... 1080p games at a rock solid 60fps. If this is not achievable the hardware has fallen short based on the promises made :)

Why even compare this half a game to God of War III.

Let's just say I'll be spending the night in a cardboard box outside of Gamestop for 2 weeks in advance when God of War III comes out.

But seroiusly, why is everyone so excited about the sequel to a game that average 7/10 on metacritic last generation. Killzone 2 = Over-hyped.

overhype? you sure? i think a certain MS fps game takes that spot of the most overhype fps game.

I think people were somewhat disappointed with Killzone cuz they expected a total Halo killer. I had no idea it was billed as such until playing it and enjoying it.

I gotta wonder if you are just looking at the metacrtic score and getting your critiscm from there or if you actually played it...

Aaronisbla I have not actually played it. You're saying that it was underrated? And you are right, Halo 3 is more overrated.
