Capcom To Add More White Individuals In Resident Evil 5?
Resident Evil 5It seems that Capcom may finally bend to the politically correct pressure and toss in some differently-pigmented zombies for their upcoming survival/horror death-fest, Resident Evil 5.
The game is set in Africa, so of course, there are plenty of African-Americans. Therefore, when the village gets assaulted by a nasty virus that turns them into zombies, logic tells us that we get a lot of African-American zombies. Sounds perfectly logical to us, but it certainly created a lot of negative backlash, and here's some evidence of that:
"...gunning down mobs of angry Africans could be subtly racist...Its not just that these zombies are black, but that the uninfected black villagers are zombie-like too. See all those spooky shots of the villagers before they get infected? Its as if race itself were a disease. The white protagonist has to fight back or be infected." (Source- GameSpot)
And now according to TalkPlayStation, the latest issue of OPM says Capcom will be including more white people and zombies in Resident Evil 5. Now, we're not about to judge, but we know two things: 1. we've played every RE there is, and to be perfectly honest, it's very possible that every last zombie we smoked in the past decade was white. 2. What exactly does "zombie-like" mean? Frequent Wal-Mart shoppers that appear more green than white? Been playing games for quite a while, and most villains, enemies, and in general, most every stupid, lazy, jerk we've ever seen in games has been...white. I guess our point is, does it matter what color your skin is when you're a zombie?! We never cared before; we gun down whitey like crazy!

I also think they shouldnt have buckled under pressure but i guess they wanna sell copies of games.
If a zombie was attacking me, i dont care if its the former pope ( no offense to catholics, seriously, no offense ) He's catching some hot lead to the face!

You guys are right that it is funny that it's never been racist when only white people are the enemy you have to kill and that's even when you are in a location that should have a pretty mixed population not like Africa where the majority would indeed be black!
I think NOW people should boycott the game for Capcom backing down.

Remind me to cry racism the next time somebody makes a game where say... oh I dunno... The main character is OJ Simpson, and the object of the game is to go run around and kill white women! (actually, skip that, somebody start developing, I smell big sales on this idea!)
Wake up Capcom -.- Even by US standards (which wow, has a long ways to go) just elected Barak Obama for the Democratic nominee, and you're taking to cries of 'racism'? What's next?
Just make everyone happy, leave the game as it is, and throw in a white lawyer who gets turned into a zombie, and he's the first one you kill. End of story, world will shut up, everyone smiles.
We're in 2008, not 1958. Get with it.

At 1st when I saw the trailer of RE5 I didn't think it was racist, just looked very hard cause the zombies were running very fast, and jumping climbing objects. But then one of my white friends said to me do u notice that the Africans, look like regular Africans? So I watched the trailers again and said whoa.... they do look like non infected africans. But I'm not one of those over sensitive Black guys so I told him not offended but it looks LIKE A WHITE GUY DOING SOME EXTERMINATION OF AFRICANS.
All I saying is in the past RÉ'S the zombies looked, and moved like zombies, even though they were white. These zombies look like africans and move like athletes.

You talk to the average person, be they white, black, yellow, green, orange, purple...they (well maybe not the green and purple), and they wouldn't give a monkey's uncle about this kind of thing!!

My only issue is how the zombies don't look like zombies, but more like a regular African. That's my only gripe. They look just like the africans u see on informercials starving to death. Now I find it weird that I'm the only one that sees that. Could be a coincedence, I don't know .

But I'm not sayin its racist. The most important viewpoint would have to be an AFRICAN. I'm just african american, If their offended than there's a case. If not I'm cool with it. But I 100% agree its only a video game. I just thought someone else would think its kinda wierd.

But like you say, if people are offended...it's hard to deal with that. I doubt Capcom would want to offend anyone, especially with such a huge title, and they have to realize that African-Americans make up a large portion of the gaming community. So yeah, it's a tough situation. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes, certainly. :)

If the game was based in Asia...I wouldn't expect to be killing white people?!? same if based in Iraq...why is it that people always call racist when (in a game) a white guy kills a hoard of AFRICANS??? What if the main character was Black?? people would have said the game portrays Black on Black criminal behavior and then the game would have to be changed to killing aliens (HALO, Resistance, etc.) ...It's a game people...get over yourself! Slavery was a long time ago and Blacks were not the only slaves!!!!!!!!!!
I am pretty sure that the people having a problem with this have never been a slave and have no clue what slavery is! Let Capcom make their game and have African's jump out of DARK places scaring us like the infected dog through the window....
