Rumor: Christian Bale To Play Snake

Fans of the legendary Metal Gear Solid franchise likely know about the upcoming film, which has been all but confirmed by the likes of Variety and IMDB. Some of these fans may not like this idea, as it's more than a little possible that Hollywood could put a black mark on the renowned quality of this landmark series. However, it's probably gonna happen, and with the right cast, anything's possible.

Well, does anybody think the Dark Knight himself would make for a good Snake? Perhaps Sony Pictures thinks he will, as the latest rumor from the Metal Gear Solid Movie Chronicles blog (citing UK publication, "Nuts") says Christian Bale is in line for the challenging role. They already have Michael De Luca ("American History X" and "Magnolia") at the helm with Hideo Kojima acting as Executive Producer, and Bale would make for another talented and high-profile addition to the project. However, as most UK residents are well aware, "Nuts" isn't exactly CNN, so this is nothing more than a very big rumor. We're just hoping it comes true, because Bale is both an accomplished actor and a name that mainstream movie-goers recognize. Not a bad combination.

We'd love to get this confirmed in the coming months, because it might actually give MGS fans a reason to be excited. Until then, keep hoping that this film will shatter the unfortunate trend of terrible movies being born from fantastic games.

Yes he would be great, but I really hope they don't make one.

Sorry guys I just can't believe this. Bale is already Batman for the forseeable future and has signed on for like 3 terminator films. I doubt he'd want to get involved in another series of movies right now.

David should just play Snake,They both look alike lol and the voice...well duh! But I agree that a live action would be odd.Should just make a CG movie using the PS3 architecture.Still want Advent Children on Blu-ray damn it!!!

I've never read Nuts for the news. lol
Kojima only as Exec Producer? For this to work he should be far more involved than that.
I doubt Bale would make a good Snake. Naked Snake looked a lot more like Kurt Russel in the Escape From movies, so perhaps someone a little tougher looking than Bale?

Solid Snake is based on Kurt Russell's character, as I'm sure you know.

To Arnold: Solid Snake is NOT based on Kurt Russel's character, in fact he is based on Michael Biehn's portrayal of Kyle Reese in Terminator (1984). The scenes that show Kyle Reese fighting against the machines in the future were the inspiration for Solid Snake in Metal Gear (1987).

Old news is old? I believe this rumor was first announced in September. And after just beating MGS4, why do they need to do a MGS movie? And if so...why not just a computer animated movie? MGS4 looked sweet.

If you see Bale in movies like Reign of Fire, he had the whole facial hair going. So I can see him playing him visually...but I dunno, he does have a voice in Batman thats a bit like Snake I think.

@Arnold: Yeah, i knew. the whole "Iroquois Pliskin" thing was too big a clue to miss. lol
So perhaps the question is, would Bale have been a good Snake Plissken?
I hope no one suggests Richard Dean Anderson. lol

Hey guys ever watched a movie called "Escape From New York"? It came out BEFORE METAL GEAR 1. The main character is Kurt Russell and he has a mullet, and eye patch, looks exactly like snake and guess what his name is? Snake. After watching it I was like WTF? Did Kojima steal it or something?

Okay, since we all know Kojima's idea of Solid Snake/Iroquois Pliskin was influenced largely by Russell's role as Snake Pliskin in "Escape from New York", and that Russell is aged too far to be a young Solid Snake, I believe he would make a great Old Snake or better...reprise a perfect role as Big Boss!!! Kojima would dump himself at that idea I bet!

Kurt Russell should play old snake.
I don't like Christian Bale, I don't think he suited Batman and I'm sure the Terminator fans will hate him in the Terminator playing the role of John Conner. The Terminator film is doomed anyway, its already certified PG13, why don't they get Disney to make it?
I agree that MGS movie would be better in CGI with David Hayter doing the voice work for Snake.

My bad poetrazel I didn't see that but its cool to see that I'm not the only one that thinks that Kojima might have ripped off that character.
