MGS4 Boosts PlayStation 3 To Top Of Japanese Charts
For some bizarre reason, it seems Grand Theft Auto IV didn't have a massive impact on hardware sales (possibly due to the fact that most gamers didn't have to own one particular console as it was on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360). However, early indications are that Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has had a profound impact on sales in Japan.
According to the latest Media Create numbers from the land of the Rising Sun, the PSP continued its good-selling surge but the big surprise was the PS3: it topped the charts with 75,311 units sold during the week ending June 15. The PSP came in a solid second at 64,675, with the Nintendo Wii in third at 45,564 and the DS in an unsurprising fourth at 39,201. The un-killable PS2 drops in later at 7,297 and the impossible-to-sell Xbox 360 (in Japan, anyway) brought up the rear yet again with 2,163 units sold. Obviously, the PS3's success can be attributed to the likes of MGS4, which sold over 300,000 copies in its first day of sales this past week.
We'll be waiting to see how big of an impact the monster hit had on PS3 sales in the US, but if these numbers are any indication, we expect to see something similar. MGS may be more popular in Japan, but there are plenty of US followers, too!

What the fu** is S-E thinking?!
I realize that they want to appeal to a more Western gamer but the numbers of the 360 in Japan, where they are located, are almost nothing in comparison to the PS3.
So why would they just stick there noses up to their own people and go exclusive to a platform that sells less 15k a month in their own country?
And I realize that I am just beating this topic around like a dead horse but come on!

last i checked, one flagship series was still on track to be exclusive for the PS3. the other being on the NDS.
so what if they have a couple of games exclusive for Xbox360... at the moment that is only TWO games. big whoop. there are more "exclusives" for mobile phones!
oh, and btw, in case your fanatical fanboyism made you over look something... neither game is actually being developed by S-E... only published by them. the devs are tri-Ace.
