Rumor: Team ICO Next-Gen Project In August GamePro

During the last generation, games like ICO and Shadow of the Colossus garnered widespread critical acclaim and many, many fans. Those same fans have been patiently waiting for news of Team ICO's next-gen project (there is one, although we have no information on it yet), and perhaps the August 2008 issue of GamePro will open our eyes.

This is one of those rumors that appear to be quite thin on the surface, but as we so desperately want some news, we're inclined to tell ya about it: according to SCRAWL, they say a "truly...colossal secret" would be part of the issue. Obviously, this makes everyone think they're hinting at a project that relates to the fantastic SotC; perhaps a sequel of some kind. Of course, Resistance 2 will be the centerpiece for the August GamePro (they call it the "biggest game of 2008"), but the interesting news comes from that mysterious quote. If you ask around and take a quick impromptu poll, attempting to find out how badly most gamers want another SotC, you might be surprised at the results... That particular title is such a huge cult classic these days, and the fans are tired of waiting for more from Team ICO!

But then again, we suggest giving them plenty of time to produce another gem for this generation; these developers are well known for their originality and innovation. No need to infringe on that by rushing 'em, but maybe the August GamePro will give up the goods.

Ummm interesting, but were just wishing here. Sorta like with the FF7 remake.

Resistance 2, biggest game of the year? Also very interesting. GamePro seems to really like the PS3.

yea, that statement seemed kinda weird. I love the ps3 but biggest game of the year? i didnt expect them to say that, unless the mean biggest game that hasnt been released yet.

Then again, i guess one could expect others to say Gears 2

Sequel to the most important game on the PS3. Made by the best developer in the history of video games (Insomniac). 60 player multiplayer. 8 Player co-op with alternate stories for coop and single player. It's definitely the BIGGEST game of the year.

Well when Gamepro makes a statement such as "The biggest game of 2008", that certainly demands more respect than that overrated sotc game which some would call a work of art while others would call a broken game.

Ok so it was good but only 15 enemies in the whole game and a ton of boring exploration? Lets just say it wasn't for everyone.

It wasn't. But the drawbacks you're describing are trivial and incapable of overriding the good.

15 enemies in the entire game and you call that "trivial"?

I don't even call that a drawback. I can't think of ANYONE who wanted more than 15 in that game, to be perfectly honest. Each was a completely new experience in and of itself; it's about the quality of the encounters, not the quantity. Personally, I thought 15 was just about right.

I just wish the game didn't give me motion sickness! I woulda had a chance to finish it then. But throwing up just feeling sick every 15 minutes, suck.

Did you know Hideo Kojima gets intense motion sickness thats why he made the first 3 MGS games without a 3d camera. (3d camera was introduced in MGS 3 Subsistence and MGS 4 but not in Snake Eater.)

Not every game in the world is for everyone, people pick and choose on what appeals to them. Reviews and such should only be some sort of guidance. So yeah SotC didn't appeal to everyone, neither did FFVII or Resistance...but it sure turned quite a bit of heads.

Man just imagine a SotC on the PS3... that would looking MORE THAN AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think 15 enemies were bad - IF you didn't use a FAQ then some of them were quite challenging to beat. You had to think of their weak spots (if you could see them 'cause some were not visible without light), then where they can get damaged and how (remember one had an armor on it), then a strategy to beat them and finally actually executing your strategy - which by itself can be very challenging!!

Anywayz if they do make another SotC I'm sure they'll include more and I hope it'll have these gorgeous environments like the one on the PS2 which truly is a classic.

Eitherway this is just wistful thinking - I hope hope Team ICO is smarter than S-E (spin-offs of FFVII instead of re-creating the actual game) and actually create a sequel!

Ico and SOTC are two of my all time favorite games, I am really looking forward to that gamepro issue. Is that issue coming out at the beginning of July?

Should be, since Issues are always dated one month in advance to their actual release on newsstands. Anyhow, I love SOTC for sure. It is certainly different and I consider it as a work of art, not just a video game. The art direction in that game really impressed me. I just hope Team ICO can make either a new IP, or continue this great game that they started.

@ Mystearica. You do realise that SoC is a spin off of Ico, so would another spinoff be such a bad thing. I remember feeling disapointed when I found out that SoC won't be a direct sequal to Ico, but after playing through the whole game I can safely say that it went above and beyond anything I could have hoped for.
