Sony Delivers New inFamous Details
For a while there, we thought Sucker Punch's new PlayStation 3 game would be another installment in their well-received Sly Cooper franchise from the previous generation. But as it turned out, the game was inFamous, an open-world sandbox game designed to be both engrossing and original. If you hadn't noticed, it nailed the cover of this month's Game Informer and Sony has also released new details, much to the delight of anticipatory gamers.
The main character's name is Dylan, and he is blessed with a variety of superhuman powers. The game takes place in Empire City and after a huge explosion rocks the town, Dylan goes to find his friend Zeke, but that explosion had some kind of weird effect on Dylan. He collapses en route to Zeke and lies in a coma for 15 days. In the meantime, the city starts to clamp down and impose martial law due to a mysterious plague and riots in the city. When Dylan emerges from the coma, he finds Empire City in chaos and must choose to use his newfound powers for good or...a different kind of good: save the town, or destroy an unsaveable town? For this purpose, there is a Karma system that tracks Dylan's decisions (kinda like keeping an eye on your balance between good and evil actions).
From what we've seen so far, the game appears to look a lot like a GTA or Saints Row, with plenty of open area and apparently no exploration restrictions. This is one project that sounds awfully interesting, and Sony says we'll probably see it some time in early 2009. Hopefully, we'll get more details at E3 next month...
