In-Game XMB Features Revealed?

Okay, so the in-game XMB didn't come with yesterday's Network maintenance, but it remains confirmed for firmware update 2.40. And while we still don't know exactly when it might arrive - we're still guessing early next month - we may know what the flashy new XMB will feature.

According to PS3Fanboy, the following list of options will present themselves after you've downloaded the new in-game XMB. If there's one feature the PlayStation 3 absolutely needs, it's this one. Check out the rumored features:

  • Friend category
  • View, send, receive messages
  • Manage downloads
  • Set the vibration feature of the controller
  • Sign in to PlayStation Network
  • Register friends
  • Manage Bluetooth devices
  • Terminate the game
  • Music category
  • Use the system BGM
  • Work the system BGM operation panel
  • Settings category
  • Assign controllers
  • View profiles
  • Game category
  • Set audio devices
  • Use the voice changer

Well, that's a hefty list, isn't it? Our game-playing experience on the PS3 will instantly come complete with many more alternatives, and that's nothing but good news. Stay tuned for the finalized release date for firmware 2.40.

THANK U BEN & PSX!!!!! That's what I wanna hear! All those features lets me get off of sony's back and understand y they keep pushing it back. They're makin sure they get it right on the 1st try! They're makin sure that you'll be able to take care of business but not to much where it freezes the game or creating future problems. HATS OFF TO SONY FOR NOT RUSHING AND PUTTING OUT CRAP!

Cliff Bleszinski, lead game designer of Gears of War 2, cites Metal Gear Solid as the kind of game Epic doesn’t want to make. What were his exact words? Read on to find out.

In a recent interview with IGN, CliffyB was quoted in saying the following:

“Metal Gear Solid is our example of the game we’re not doing. Passive entertainment is on its way out.”

The story itself is just IGN’s preview of Gears multiplayer, which is interesting, but CliffyB’s quote kinda came out of nowhere. Am I sensationalizing this, or did CliffyB just totally dis Metal Gear Solid?

Why would u need to video chat while playing a game??? And if enough people cry about that feature I'm pretty sure sony will add it. Besides be happy with what we get!

I was just looking over at ps3fanboy.com and it seems to me that alot of rumors are spread about Sony...alot more than others. Firmware, psp, psphone, etc. I haven't heard any rumors on anything related to the other systems...then again...i don't really check up on them :-P

Woah, seems pretty popular. All I like the sound of is the music feature. Does that mean that in-game music is more likely now?

And the messaging thing seems useful, remember how you get a message and leave your game, just to find out that it ses "WaNnA PlAy S0M3 MuL71pLaY3r???///??"

There is a rumor of it being pushed back to E3, but when they first announced 2.4 last week, I was told July 2nd, hopefully they didn't push it back again.

If they did, they better add Multiple PSN logins, and voice chat (while in game).

I'm disappointed, I really never cared about ingame-XMB, except I really really wanted the ability to have private chat with friends. And as far as I can tell that not there. sure there's the text messaging stuff but no regular easy to use fun, wonderful, (something that 360 has always had) Private Ingame Chat With Friends.
Sure lets all be so happy, for ingame XMB and then we will find out the there's no ingame soundtrack option and no ingame private chat.

Thanks Sony this is the update everyone been waiting for. yea right

and don't be fooled by the music category, it will shut off ur music the moment u go back the the game.

Well, u need to look at it for the long term. InGame XMB will evolve over time too, features will be upgraded, so will connectability globally with your PSP. We should see more interesting things to come. Think 3 years from now... How far advanced would the XMB be after all the new features eventually make it in, whatever they may end up being...

Q!

"aLL RoAdS LeAd toO HoMe"

I hope the in-game XMB will have good performance.

X360 in-game dashboard is a bit slow. It have menu delay. It become a bit annoying when playing musics while in game. Changing tracks and selecting musics get some delay
