Sony: "Live-Like" Content Coming To PlayStation 3 Software
Ever since the start of the next-gen console war, Xbox 360 fans always found it easy to lord their more robust online service over the PlayStation Network. Xbox Live was a more established service, certainly, and it featured more bells and whistles than the Network ever had. But over the past year and a half, Sony has worked to incorporate upgrades into the Network in order to close the gap...as most online multiplayer aficionados have noticed, the gap is indeed closing.
As if in reply to this exact phenomenon, a "senior PS3 development source" spoke to the Videogaming247 blog yesterday, saying that we can see more new features in the near future. "There is Live-like stuff coming to PS3, yes," said the source. "Its going into titles in the works now." With all this talk of the in-game XMB and trophies arriving with firmware update 2.40, plus supposed leaked pics of PSN gamer profiles flying across the Internet, the PlayStation Network is a major topic of conversation. The more we hear, the more likely it is that we'll be turned onto more updates and features at E3 next month, but that should be in addition to what firmware 2.40 provides. Some believe Sony won't release that update until the week of E3, but other sources say it'll be here within the next couple of weeks.
Either way, it seems quite obvious that Sony has their gaze fixed squarely on the PSN, and we can expect to see even more enhancements and positive alterations as time goes on. There are always things that can be done!
