Rumor: Firmware 2.40 Release Date
We keep getting the same question from our readers, and it all boils down to one word: When?! Obviously, everyone is pretty excited about firmware update 2.40 for the PlayStation 3, the one that brings the in-game XMB and trophy support. Now, we've already stumbled across the rumored features - which are quite plausible - but the actual release date remains a mystery.
Perhaps not anymore. It's just another rumor, but according to who many call a very reliable source at the NeoGAF forums, we have a fresh new release rumor that...well, it also sounds quite plausible. Here's what "consul" posted in the forums:
"Official announcement on the 30th. The video walkthrough and official screens of in-game XMB, profiles and trophies will all be out on Monday."
Obviously, this isn't exactly official, but it does fall into the estimated time frame, and furthermore, it fits previous rumors that placed update 2.40 on July 2. The video walkthrough will be something worth seeing, most certainly, so we'll have to keep an eye out for that. If Sony confirms any of this within the next few days, we'll be sure to let you know, but even if they don't...2.40 appears to be very, very close.
