The Force Unleashed Progress Hurt By LucasArts Layoffs?

We've already heard about the LucasArts layoffs, but the publisher assured the gaming public that this wouldn't affect their video game development. However, the latest rumor says their biggest title of the year, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, may be facing some tough times ahead.

According to GamerChip, those LucasArts layoffs included members of the Force Unleashed development team, as a former employee has said several other members have been "released from their contracts before the title had wrapped up." He said he also believes there simply isn't enough manpower left to finish up the project, which would be bad news for "Star Wars" fans. GamerChip speculates LucasArts may outsource to get the remaining bits done, but that's not exactly good news, either. Of course, without any official word on this, we're going to treat it as nothing more than a rumor...let's hope the game stays on track.

As of now, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed holds a September 16 release date, and we've received no word of a delay. But there's no doubt there are a few issues over at LucasArts, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see them have a negative impact...

Okay this is false. No doubt in my mind. Star Wars is LucasArts hottest commodity. There is no way that they would set themselves up for another KoTOR II fiasco (where the ending is non-existent and there is no polish to it.) LucasArts will make sure this game is as good as it can be. I boil this down to a pissy ex-employee.

Yes, I find this really hard to believe. If the rumours are reality however, it shows that even the mighty Lucas empire needs to rashion every so often.

I believe however that the developers working on the project would not find it too hard to find equally good positions elsewhere. What a shame for LucasArts, I wonder why times are so tough for them that they need to lay-off devs!

This can't be right, there is already merchandise available for this game in the form of Lego!

Actually if it is the case it may be worth buying up some of this merchandise as it may end up being worth a fair bit!!

I really hope this game doesn't get pushed back more because of a few problems within the company because that would really suck.
