PlayStation-Branded Bluetooth Headset Confirmed

If you play online a lot, you probably want the best headset you can find. You want it to be functional, comfortable and reliable, and hopefully, that's exactly what you're going to get with this new PlayStation-branded Bluetooth headset from Sony.

According to PS3Fanboy, this nifty gadget has been officially unveiled and it will arrive with the release of SOCOM Confrontation, which is scheduled to hit stores on September 16. It's not altogether different from the Jabra headset that came packaged with Warhawk last year, but the design appears to be much better, and yes, that is a PlayStation logo on there. The standard features will be included, like a Mute button, longer battery life, and a special USB charging cradle (as pictured here). We have yet to receive any details on pricing for the unit by itself, but it's rumored that the SOCOM Confrontation bundle will go for $79.99. That would tell us the headset itself wouldn't cost more than $20 or $30, depending on how much of a deal that game bundle will be.

We'll have more on Confrontation over the summer, and in the meantime, if you're an online buff and a PS3 owner, keep a close eye on this new headset.

People better get used to blue-tooth headsets; sooner or later most states in the US will require them while driving. California just made talking on your cell phone while driving illegal.

The reason many bluetooth headsets are having issues on PS3 is because they're designed for phones. This is only the fourth Bluetooth headset I can think of designed for PS3. It should be really good but it'll cost a pretty penny. Since SOCOM confrontation will have a similar pricing structure as Warhawk the game itself will be worth 30-40 dollars making the headset 30-40 dollars as well. I expect that this will be one of the best headsets we've seen on PS3 so it will be well worth it. And it definately beats the $80 logitech one that I've had my eye on.

i find that shocking that talking on your mobile phone isn't already illegal across the pond, its been illegal over here in great britian for quite a few years... tho i am very happy about i have a motorola one which is okish but not that great, which is understandable as it wasnt built for the ps3, this one is so should be spot on, sony had alot of problems but theyve really ironed out there product and its really looking top top notch now, with great games like mgs4, blu ray live, firmware 2.4 about to be on us and now an offical headset, i cant think of a single issue sony needs to address, i am a very happy gamer indeed.

one more issue sony needs to adress m8... Playstation Home??

all this new stuff sony's bombarding us with, is hiding the fact that they promised us something that they aren't capable of properly building.. its been what? a few years asince the idea of home was first introduced, and look, a closed beta is all they can show for it.

its like telling your kid they're going to go to disney land next year, but everytime you're supossed to go, you tell them some dumb excuse, and put off until next year.. (the process repeats)

Do you have any or can you look into the info for the upcoming GTAIV DLC which MS says is exclusive but based on recent events makes me think its only timed exclusivity...anything at all would help...Thanx

From what I know, there is certain DLC that IS exclusive to the Xbox 360 version of GTAIV, but there's also a very good chance that Rockstar will release DLC for the PS3 version as well, and it'll be exclusive to that platform.

I seriously doubt PS3 owners will have to go without DLC forever on GTAIV; let's just leave it at that. :)

Am I the only one that was a hundred percent sure that that MGS headset would suck from the moment it was first rumored? It looked cheap, it was by a company infamous for cheap (read: crappy) products, and to top it all off it had completely unnecessary branding. This however is a SONY product. It will be good. Don't worry this headset won't be $80.

I predict that the headset should be at least 40 or 50 bucks because the warhawk version with the headset was $80 and the original headset was $50. It should go the same with socom.

So long as the battery life exceedes 3 hours I will buy it. I've got a plantronics that can't go past 2.5 hours which sucks when you're in a marathone session with friends.

Wait, GameStop has the SOCOM: Confrontation w/ Headset listed as $59.99... In fact i've already preordered it. I hope the price isn't $80.00, that's a little steep for me. If it is i'll just buy the game, and stick to my Jabra headset from Warhawk... Oh btw i'm new here, but i've been reading the news e-mails for awhile, good work, Ben, your columns are my favorite.
