Sony Won't Confirm PS2 Downloadable Titles For Store
Yesterday, we learned about a N4G forum poster who had apparently stumbled upon vidual evidence of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty on the PlayStation Store, which would - of course - indicate that PS2 games are going to become downloadable on the PS3. However, either somebody got a little PhotoShop-happy, or Sony is going to deny this until E3...
GamePro put the question to Sony's Patrick Seybold, who shot the rumor down quickly:
"I'm not sure where the image came from. At this point, we haven't made any announcements, and there are no plans for PS2 downloadable titles on PS3."
Many believed Sony would take this step in response to Microsoft putting Xbox Originals on the Xbox Live Marketplace for download on the Xbox 360. And despite this Seybold comment, many unofficial sources still say PS2 downloadable classics are on the way, and the announcement will come at E3. If you note the statement, Seybold says "at this point," which could imply a little something. Then again, we could just be grasping at straws, even though it's tough to ignore so many so-called "insiders" who say PS2 titles will most definitely come to the Store eventually. And in all honesty, it's tough to believe it won't ever happen. Right?
