70% Of PS3 Games Support Trophies

Yes, firmware update 2.40 and all the glory that comes with it was officially unveiled yesterday, much to the delight of many a PlayStation 3 owner. However, now that we know Trophy support will become available tomorrow (July 2, baby!), many are asking: how many of the current PS3 titles will support them?

According to TalkPlayStation citing this month's issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine UK, about 70% of all games currently available for the PS3 will support Trophies. Here's the quote in question from the article: "PlayStation 3 achievements - called trophies - will be unveiled soon, and 70% of games will already be compatible." That's good news, although we expected that a great many games will boast Trophy compatibility...we get the sneaking suspicion that many developers and publishers knew they were coming before we did. In the future, you can probably expect an even higher percentage of PS3 software to support Trophies; the majority of Xbox 360 titles have some Achievements to strive for, yes?

We imagine more news will come out of firmware update 2.40, just because it's so freakin' big for PS3 owners. Don't worry; you won't miss a beat; it's pretty exciting from a hardware standpoint. Is it hot in here, or what?

So does this mean we have to play certain games again to get the trophies?

heh, this will give me something to do to kill time. With ANY luck, it'll have the ability to pick up info from saved games, so ppl don't have to play through things again to get trophies they should already have had.

God I hope so. Trying to go through both Burnout Paradise, GTAIV, and MGS4 to get these will take me forever!

Plenty of games have had achievement type systems for ages, even dating back to the PS2 and PSP. Maybe all Sony has changed is pulling the already working trophy aspect of each game and allowing a trophy cabinet in your profile??

all those were based within the game, this is a much bigger thing.

Trophies look cool but i have to admit that i don't like what achievements have done to gaming as a whole. In games like Team Fortress 2 people are trying to unlock the achievements more then trying to win or contribute to the team and ends up making the game far less enjoyable to the rest of the system. I hope Sony does a good job at balancing this and limits what trophies can be won online and offline.

Trophies should be good, they give you a reason to play the games you got bored with again so brings some life into the games your bored of :D. Should be cool :)
