Additional 2.40 Details Uncovered

What was that? ...you want more news and information on firmware update 2.40? Can't get enough. Well, okay.

First up, it seems we now have confirmation that the acquisition of a Trophy will result in an audible update of sorts. When Trophies were revealed as part of the 2.40 update, users were initially a trifle miffed to find no evidence of an auditory cue. You get it when unlocking an Achievement on the Xbox 360, and while it seems trivial, it's often the only thing that gets your attention when playing. Well, according to Videogamer.com, getting a Trophy will indeed have an in-game sound effect-

"Actually on my way home, I got an email from Eric [Lempel, director, PlayStation Network Operations] asking me to update this post; there *will* be a sound effect when a user unlocks a trophy. You'll be hearing it soon enough. Hopefully a lot," explained SCEA's Jeff Rubenstein over at the official PlayStation Blog.

Now, in addition to this, more rumored features are floating around the Internet. Currently unconfirmed, TheSixthAxis cites a Japanese gaming site that lists several options that weren't included in the 2.40 FAQ. This includes an "Off" option under the User category, surround sound capability for MP3s, and a new sorting option for Photos. These are all relatively small, and they may or may not be true, but we think they're worth mentioning. If Sony clarifies this, we'll be sure to let you know.

Remember, firmware update 2.40 is available tomorrow!

The official blog now says, "How quickly things can change - there *will* be a sound effect when you unlock a Trophy" in place of the no answer that was there before in the FAQ on 2.40
Another plus for our new trophy system i see

Cool that sounds good :), surround sound for mp3's would be good too considering Windows Media player wont do it for free!! just transfer them to the ps3 to play on my surround system :)

I wonder if we can custom make our trophy sound...i'd like something from perhaps mortal kombat that says "whoopsy!" or maybe use sounds on our ps3 hard drives to do so? I can imagine people using all sorts of sfx such as family guys' quagmire "giggidy giggidy goo!!!" :-P

lol TIME, we know what day X-P I wish I knew...if its like 12:01 tonight...i'm willing to stay up for it...but now its probably gonna be tomorrow noon-5 sorta like Thursday updates but on a Wednesday :(

i downloaded and installed it, but now my ps3 just gets stuck showing the black screen with wavy thing across it when it turns on!

I READ ON PS BLOG SITE THE FAQs ABOUT 2.40. THE DEVs HAVE TO ENABLE CUSTOM SOUNDTRACKS!!!! WHY IS IT UP TO THEM!!!!! THIS IS OUR DAMN CONSOLE!!!! I CAN'T DEFEND THIS CONSOLE ANYMORE!!!! I'M CONSTANTLY DEFENDING THIS CRAP MACHINE AGAINST 360 OWNERS. MY SYSTEMS KEEP BREAKING DOWN AND I TREAT THIS SYTEM LIKE MY PRIZE POSESSION, WHICH IT IS!!!! I WAITED 2 DAYS FOR THIS AT LAUNCH AND HAVE BEEN DISSAPPOINTED!!!! ONLY THING GREAT ABOUT IT IS MGS4. EVERYTHING ELSE I CAN GET WITH XBOX.

@karne Your right. Its not sony fault for not having the custom soundtracks. WAIT...HMMMMM..... SHOULDN'T AN SCEA GAME PLAY TRACKS, BUT THEY DON'T. MLB THE SHOW DOESNT ??? EVERY GAME I TRIED HASN'T ALLOWED IT. 360 HAS A SEPARATE MUSIC PLAYER ON TOP OF CUSTOM SOUNDTRACK. I'M SORRY THERE ARE NO MORE EXCUSES! @karne the constant banter I have back and forth with 360 owners stating y they think they're system is better, is what I have to defend against. When my system breaks down for numerous different reasons is what I defend. For not having minor options that other systems have is what I defend. I'm through man. Sony has been letting me down for over a year now. They procrastinate home, which I had my hopes up for. They don't have anything now. I love MGS 4, but it can't help my relationship wit sony now.

Wait, so you wont be able to play music from your Harddrive, If thats true im going to be angry, Its bad enough we have to wait for patch updates to function music play, why cant we just do it on any game like the 360, is it really that difficult?

no ,its not that difficult,all we have to do is tell game developers (Who could care less about the ps3) to drop whatever project they're working on n give us the patches today. piece of cake right!
